Anybody dying is a tragedy, but there's something that hits extra hard when a journalist is killed in the line of duty.
Alleged fraud in the country’s electoral processes in recent years have allowed Ortega to control the country’s national assembly and make important constitutional changes, including his own right to serve more than two terms as president. He now controls all branches of government, while reforms to the laws regulating the army and national police have also brought those institutions into line behind him.
Oh man that video, poor guy literally just stood there one minute and was blown away the next. I can't comprehend what would give the police the idea to even do that to an unarmed person.
More countries really need to put work into fortifying their constitutions to inhibit dictatorships. The US and Germany/etc do a great job at this by (US) requiring a HUGE vote to modify it, and Eternity Clauses locking out manipulations of rights.
