Unfortunately it looks rather premeditated. Rented van, driver tried to flee, then tried seemingly tried to threaten the arresting officer into shooting him by waving his phone around like a gun.
Is that a bus sized paramedic HQ/ambulance? That seems like a good idea for mass casualty situations.. wonder why I've never seen them before.
This for me is terrifying considering I was near that part of Yonge Street not long before.
I never thought something like this would happen in TO, I'm just glad they arrested the driver
it's a shame isn't it? it is putting people into a state of fear and paranoia
On a video of the arrest that was posted on social media, the person arrested could be heard saying, “kill me.”
Suicide attempt or realizing how fucked he his after being caught?
Yeah. Most EMS agencies have one or something similar, or have mutual aid policies in place to bring one/send one in from other another county or city.
The department I took my basic EMT class at had a couple trailers they would hook up to their utility truck to tow out to the scene, had enough supplies to work on ~40 PTs on scene while you run through triage and the like, tents, tarps, a bunch of stuff. It saw some use at a couple big crashes and etc. here. I'm sure they're handy to have.
Sounds more like a suicide attempt. He tried to hard to make it appear like he was holding a gun.

Kudos to the cops for not pulling the trigger. He deserves to be served justice.
I'm surprised he didn't get shot, impressive police work
"I have a gun in my pocket"
"I don't care, get down"
So, this is Anndale/Harlandale Drive. I live on this street, and that is the subway entrance I use basically every day of my life. I wasn't around during the attack but I heard the sirens wailing and the choppers flying overheard. I went down there about 30 mins ago to grab some things and the situation is still fragile.
I hope everybody else is safe and ok, and if there are any Toronto/North York facepunchers affected by this, drop me a dm.
I guess they took the chances on him not having a gun because if he did actually have one he probably would have tried shooting them by that point. Good job on them for getting him however! There's always a chance he wasn't bluffing considering what he'd just done.
Idk why people over here are saying 40 dead? Im thankful for FP because how?
Fuck man, I don't live downtown but I go there often enough to really freak me out. I don't know how I feel but Im on the verge of tears and I don't know why
Nothing wrong with that, most vehicle attacks nowadays are perpetuated by terrorist. A friend of mine who lived in Toronto said that many believes it's a middle eastern person and honestly, who can fault them for that?
Who’s saying that?
I love how the cop realizes it's not a gun, just strides up and accosts him. He's not overly rough or anything, just arrests him like he would anyone else. I can't imagine being that cop and being so impartial after this man just murdered so many innocent people. Fucking amazing police work, our American counterparts should take a hard look at this.
someone i live with -__-
I thought that number was a bit high to be true.
Name released.

What the ever-loving fuck?
So he's a "nice guy" terrorist?
Exactly that.
What a world.
People on that twitter post are saying its fake because they can't find that profile + post.
I always thought "beta uprising" was a joke...
The post could be faked, but it seems pretty conclusive that this was inspired by the Isla Vista, California attack.
Good lord what a bunch of fucking tools. If you start a "rebellion" because you can't get laid, you might want to consider that the problem isn't society or whatever. What are they rebelling against? Their lack of vag?
We should legalize sex work to combat terrorism.
