My thoughts on the current state of rust after a long time off.

Hi everyone, quick back ground on myself, I have about 2300 hours in rust, typically play vanilla official servers and I put rust in my top 3 favorite games due to all the fun/rage/happy memories I have in the game. That being said here is what i think about the current system in rust.
I think the last time i played was just before the component system came out and put rust down for a while after coming back I have a bit of feed back about the current systems.
First off I love/hate the component system, the PROs being it forces everyone out of their base (remember the pumpjack/quarry days that sucked) so theirs alot of random player interaction which is great! the bad being if you get raided youre recovery time will be higher (not THAT big a deal), my fix would be allowing players to craft components with scrap they find with a work bench or a new crafting station.
The Tool cupboard decay, I like this alot but the biggest problem Im seeing with this is if your base gets raided it will be deleted by the time you wake up due to decay, however I really like the decay times It helps the servers stay "clean" If it where up to me i would allow some of the materials placed inside the cupboard to be permanently consumed in some way and put towards your bases upkeep, this would help with the current issue.
Building twig floors, This is silly to me, Id like to see the building plan/ladders be done away with as a raiding tool until you find the enemy's TC and implement another raiding tool all together like a grappling hook or some sort of rope, something with a distinct sound cue and of appropriate difficulty to acquire , I have never liked the "TC meta" in rust but i understand its a massive personal bias.
work benches, the long awaited return of the work bench! I loved the concept of the work bench back in legacy and always wondered why they never implemented it in current rust. Now that its in the game I have some minor gripes about its functionality I will start with what I like about it. Crafting high value objects like , bullets , c4 , guns , ect ect while running around was Kinda silly , Now you have to be near a work bench to do it, that makes sense a welcome change! It forces players to prepare better and decide what to bring rather then just doing it on the fly. However the multiple tiers is very Unfun and puts a needless restriction on progression and the fun parts of rust.
Scrap, So here are the reasons i like scrap, It forces players to go outside, Using the recycler is ultra tense and fun, Driving around on a boat and getting scrap is super fun.
Dislikes: the amount of scrap you need to progress is a bit to high, the real problem is in previous iterations of rust there was a random chance to get some sort of weapon that would give you an edge and get you started, now its a clear path that you are required to follow, you HAVE to get scrap you HAVE to get x amount of scrap if you want to progress, I think this is fine for a lot of people but personally i find it a bit overly restrictive in some cases. my fix would be removing tiers of work benches and having just a regular workbench that you can get random bp's or dedicate more or less scrap to get a low tier or high tier bp or even entire items. Making scrap a part of workbench construction seems excessively limiting.
Well these are my thoughts on the current state of rust, I realize this seems negative but honestly the game is in a much better place then it was last i played, Im really enjoying it and will continue to play and have fun!
Well I have been playing for 15260 hours (so far) and after seeing many changes to the game since legacy i am willing to put up with the minor inconvenience of the scrap system till something else turns up ?
And i dont know about "the long awaited" return of the workbench ? i didnt miss it at all, there has always been a way of crafting items in the game only the method changes,
I wont bore anyone with what i feel about the game after all if i didnt like it anymore i would not be still playing it,
You didnt miss crafting faster? I always wanted it in the game again it was really nice, and 15260 hours thats over a year of ingame time lol wtf thats crazy! and scrap isnt the problem its the tiered workbenches that i find to be the biggest "UNFUN" part of the game atm but again, just my opinion
Just a couple of things to the OP.
Scrap and materials can be used to craft most components after you research them, so scrap continues to have a use once you have all BPs & work benches.
Slowing down progression has been the name of the game since BP & work benches were brought in after the component era.
However experimenting has been introduced which means if you just grind hard for scrap you can get all the useful BPs without having to get your hands on them.
And now Chinook drops have come in, they're just amazing, but means the dominant group can get their hands on full AK kits and be taking Heli and raiding with rockets & C4 by the first evening of wipe.
It seems like the direction of the game keeps changing. We're told something is introduced for some reasons. Then later a new change comes in without any preamble that undermines it or just doesn't come close to lining up with whats been said before.
I'm addicted to the game and love it. But choose to play on servers that suit my way of playing.
