So i wanna learn lua, i alredy know the basics such as dframes, bools, strings, lua is also my first language. i've read on other forums that you should learn c++ before getting into lua, but is it really necessary? it will probably take me a year or more to learn c++ and then start with lua? isn't it better to just learn lua right away?
I'd say Lua is a pretty good place to start, even for those wanting to go into C++. It builds on a lot of fundamentals of OOP and functional programming that translate well into lower level languages.
got any tips for how i can learn move advanced lua? i try to look at others scripts but its like a door of a different world opening, gets me completly clueless, and loss of motivation.
Write your own, reading others' scripts is usually a difficult task for anyone unless its well documented and you've understood their mindset / have enough experience of your own
Just create things that you would like to see in the game. Always keep at least 21 wiki tabs opened. Being good at something comes mostly with experience and Lua is no exception. Reading code is much harder than writing it, especially with people who haven't been programming for a long time.
you could also do stuff with darkrp modification
Reading large-scale projects is a great teacher for learning a language from my experience.
Thank you so much for all the advice.
If you need a way to learn the language itself i suggest codeblues tutorials. he has a playlist for lua itself, and then a big one for lua in gmod. Great to learn lua and to make addons
thats exactly what i did when i tried to print players steam name, so i understand what you mean and thanks gave me alot of will and motivation to learn lua, ive always heard people say u gotta do that and that to learn lua but u said something that ive alredy been doing helped alot.
