The East Area Rapist, also known as the Golden State Killer, the Original Night Stalker and the Diamond Knot Killer, is believed to have killed at least 12 people, raped at least 45 victims and burglarized hundreds of homes. I never thought they'd find him, good. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jdElYnd-xMo
Been reading about this. Michelle McNamara wrote a book on the killer in 2016 but died unexpectedly before it was published. She wrote a letter to the killer at the end of the book. One day soon, you’ll hear a car pull up to your curb, an engine cut out. You’ll hear footsteps coming up your front walk. Like they did for Edward Wayne Edwards, twenty-nine years after he killed Timothy Hack and Kelly Drew, in Sullivan, Wisconsin. Like they did for Kenneth Lee Hicks, thirty years after he killed Lori Billingsley, in Aloha, Oregon. The doorbell rings. No side gates are left open. You’re long past leaping over a fence. Take one of your hyper, gulping breaths. Clench your teeth. Inch timidly toward the insistent bell. This is how it ends for you.
The statute of limitations on most of those assaults will have expired by now, right? I'm not really sure what it is for rape in California. Still, he's wanted for several murders as well, so he's not seeing the light of day again.
40 years? what an outrageously long amount of time.
There's no statute of limitations on murder.
Wow, Michelle McNamara worked herself literally to death investigating this, and it quite possibly led to the arrest today. She was married to Patton Oswalt, who posted on Instagram today "I think you got him, Michelle" https://www.forbes.com/sites/michellefabio/2018/04/25/true-crime-author-michelle-mcnamaras-legacy-sealed-with-arrest-in-golden-state-killer-case/
They said in the press conference that it didn't impact the case, they got this one solely through DNA.
I know, that's what I was saying.
Kinda stupefying that this guy was able to murder and rape so many people without getting caught. At least around 30 of his victims survived, the fact that he could get away with it is kind insane.
The kind of tech we have today was super limited or non-existent back then. It's creepy how much people could get away with back when there was no internet, no GPS, and no cell phones (not any that could fit in your pocket at least).
Glad the sick bastard got caught but it's a shame it took so long, for all intents and purposes he practically got away with it, in 40 years he could have died of natural causes having lived his life free.
I'm reminded of someone from the Creepy Pasta thread that said his father suspected someone of being the Nightstalker. I wonder if he was right.
Interesting stuff came out: the policeman in the moustache in this photo is confirmed to be the killer, this image would've been taken 3 days before he raped a woman in Danville, California https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/1750/be5bdafd-e4c3-4d87-a3e3-f882ea461ef8/image.png Officer DeAngelo was also in charge of investigating burglaries during his time as an officer in Exeter just one month before he started committing his crime spree in 1976: https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/1750/758a8f87-44c6-4f5d-b146-b00e8f9e55d4/image.png https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/1750/b6380012-1b4c-47b2-8758-7c3dd794b6d7/image.png and then on August 29th, 1979 Officer DeAngelo was dismissed for shoplifting dog repellent and a hammer: https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/1750/002a362b-4618-4158-ab21-7429fa243f92/image.png After this the attacks stopped and he moved to Southern California where the attacks continued in October of that year. Moving to modern times: http://www.sacbee.com/latest-news/article209792989.html
This really does sound like the shitbag who committed these crimes, honestly. Having a knowledge of home invasions makes it more than likely.
I hope he rots and gets raped in prison.
TBH after what he's done I think even the death penalty or a cell is too good for him. At 72 witg all this thrown in he's got maybe 10 years of natural life left. It's tempting to say that he deserves to be brutalised like he did to his victims and I don't think anyone will feel a measure of pity for him if he were. Personally? People like this don't deserve to be adorned with monickers such as the "Golden State Killer" or any other badge of infamy because for some it's one of the things they get a kick out of having. Forget about him. Toss him in a hole to rot and be forced to live out a miserable existence for the time he does have left.
every single thread goddamn
also they released his mugshot: https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/1750/90594961-690b-47ab-b2be-19f97ad76307/image.png time hasn't been good to this fuck
First court appearance was today, he showed up in a wheelchair: https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/1750/e06719a2-0c7d-4a47-99d2-e2c479046d7d/image.png http://abcnews.go.com/US/suspected-golden-state-killer-attends-1st-court-appearance/story?id=54777918
I sure am glad that Cole Phelps found that clue 24 seconds into this video.
Not to mention intimate knowledge of all the investigative techniques and forensic techniques available at the time. He knew what cops could find, what detectives could find, erego he would have an easy job of covering his tracks.
