It's jealousy, not necessarily hatred. Overwatch fans get communication from the devs, they get the reasoning for balance changes (Valve started doing this too for TF2 last year), they get an actual face of the team in Jeff Kaplan. Valve has never done a dev video like Blizzard does, Valve devs make six reddit posts a year and blog posts when there is serious community unrest or an update is ready to release.

It's still pretty consistently in the top 10 games on steam by player-count and Valve do still update it occasionally, people just want more communication and a snappier pace.
