• Does anyone still play Shores of Hazeron?

I was looking at it and since it's been a few years there have been quite a few more updates than Valve, including one I saw about streaming for spaceships which included a Subterranean option where they can go underground with it? If anyone still plays it could I ask you questions about it?
wasnt it shut down years ago?
It's still running but it's pay to play now. Looks like it has some nice new features, like a more advanced ship designer and maybe a building designer.
I sorta play, I've mostly been playing around with the designer waiting for more of the big updates to come though. New Style Spaceships and New Style Cities are the next biggest features. Unfortunately Haxus is following the mentality of push more and more features leaving lots of them unfinished and unpolished. He jumps around what he is working on quite a bit. Overall the new designer is nice because it gives a lot of new creative freedom, but it also comes with a few drawbacks. It's much, much harder to jump in and make a ship/building. With the old cell based designer, everyone could make something in a few hours. With the new designer it takes many many hours to get something usable. Much more time for more complicated and larger designs. It isn't the most intuitive to use either. Technology was changed so that now it uses a patent system. Buildings have quality levels which increase over time. There is no way to speed that up like with TL. To make something like io tubes you need an io tube patent which requires ioplasma. To harvest ioplasma you need an ioplasma harvesting patent. For that patent you need money and to be in an environment with ioplasma. The patent part is nicer in my opinion, but the building quality is a little strange. Given that it can be shared with others using "tech disks" it's pretty pointless as the second someone reaches 255 (which should be by October 2018 as it's just a waiting game) everyone else will have it. Only plus side is you don't explicitly need Ql255 resources to get ql255 items as now the formula is: product ql = (building ql + average ingredient ql)/2 limited to building ql or something. It might be a little more complicated than that though, but with lower ql world resources and my higher ql buildings I am extracting higher ql than expected. If you got more questions feel free to throw them at me I can try and answer them to the best of my ability.
Great. Is there no vehicle designer for vehicles in general now, like sea and land only? Is that planned at all? What other large changes have happened?
No vehicle designers yet but Haxus said it is planned. So expect it "eventually" [sp]probably a year or two at this rate...[/sp] Big changes come with new style cities. New Style cities behave a little differently. There is no shared commodity storage, each building design has it's own amount. A building will pull in required resources from other buildings it is connected to. Airports under construction can do this to other cities, meaning building in an established system is even easier. Buildings can have 65k people and 65k jobs now, if you really want to stack it up. Streamlining comes in a few options. Streamline: atmospheric entry Sea Surface: not damaged when floating on top of sea Submersible: not damaged by high stress from pressure, aka can go under seas and supercooled liquid and in gas giant seas. I don't know if subterranean is planned. Floating cities/platforms, flying cities/platforms are planned, along with stuff like space elevators. A lot of this though I wouldn't realistically expect it for a year or two. Haxus works in strange ways as mentioned before. It's taken about a year for new style spacecraft to get to where they are, and they aren't even complete yet. Instead of fulling finishing one feature Haxus will hop around. I'd suggest reading the spacecraft update page, the building update page, and the technology update page. They link to all the forum posts and summarize the big changes. If you don't want to mess around with what's currently working nor pay the 10$ monthly fee I'd say wait a few months to a year to look at it again. Progress is slow. I really wish Haxus would look at hiring or getting other people to help. One developer can only do so much...
Has population limits been changed then? Interesting to know I can cram more people in an apartment then the per level limit of before. Can you make furniture or props for houses and such too now?
New Style Cities currently do not have a population limit. Morale is currently not implemented either, but is going to be soon. Haxus said it will work as before. The new designer works off of volume, which is then assigned to different items. For buildings the options are: Arena space, armor, auditorium space, battery, commodity storage, generator, homes (large, medium, small), life support, lounge space, office space, shop space, store space. Each building type has specific requirements and will specify which is used for processes. For example: A cantina requires at least 1m3 of commodity storage, 1 lounge, and 1 office. The number of lounges is now equal to the designs "cantina level." So how last time citizens demanded X number of cantina levels per population, it can be translated into they demand X cantina lounges per population. This means you can make one super huge cantina that can satisfy 1000 citizens. I think my casino design does this. It is unclear how apartment vs house will work, Haxus has not commented on specifics yet, but we are assuming that Large homes give a positive morale effect, medium give no morale effect, and small give a negative morale effect, and that if large > small (or maybe medium + small) then there is an overall positive effect and the inverse if small > large there is a negative impact. You can fully model interior of ships (required, have to have at least 1 room for stations) and buildings (not actually required, none of my building designs have interiors because designing 80+ interiors is wayyy to much work). My ships are pretty reasonably furnished for example, but my buildings are only pretty from the outside. Once I finish designing my buildings, I intend on creating a supercity with a million citizens to stress test the servers and see how upset it makes Haxus. I suspect once this happens he will start imposing population limits instead of actually optimizing the game. Originally the zone population limit (very tiny) applied for a new style city which meant worlds now had 1/3rd the population cap as before, but after we all complained he removed the cap entirely "for now."
But I can make specific furniture now? Can I actually import .blend or some other format of objects instead of doing everything through SoH's tools?
3ds files. You can also import custom textures for the objects, but there is a strict limit to the number of textures per design, and a file size limit. I haven't run into any issues yet but my designs so far have been small and not very complex. I suggest you download the launcher and take a look at the new designer.
Why did I start in a native American village when in primeval?
@gnomical Can you flatten land for building cities yet?
