April Fools' was at the beginning of the month?
Not really too much of a surprise, but sad to see the Fiesta go. The C-Max was a waste, and the Taurus is kinda ugly and has a crummy cramped interior for its size.
What about the focus RS or other fords?
This doesn't include trucks or SUV, and Ford predicts a full half of the US car market will be only SUVs/Crossovers and trucks.
Ford also today reaffirmed its commitment to bringing hybrid-electric powertrains to the F-150, Mustang, Explorer, Escape and upcoming Bronco This makes more sense now
what they mean is everything classed as a car will be consolidated so no more Fiesta, Focus, Fusion, and Taurus people prefer crossovers and SUVs now, they've got a minor hit to fuel economy for better utility focus ST will probably remain
Good, maybe they can make them less shit too. I was looking at the compacts every company offers at the auto show this year and Ford's were all extremely disappointing. Way too overpriced for what you got with them, and they looked and felt cheap. Also, the Fiesta was so expensive there was no reason not to just get a Focus. Ford's main thing has been its SUVs and Pickups for a while now. The F-150 has been the best selling truck in Canada for over 50 years, and IIRC the best selling vehicle period the last few.
The RS is done with it's 3-ish year production like it was always meant to be.
Does this mean we're going back to Charger police cars in the future? Fuck yeah.
no they'll just buy more police interceptor utilities and possibly keep the PI sedan around as a fleet only model for a bit like they did with CVPI
If the quality of American Fords is anything like the quality of Australian Fords - speaking as an Australian Ford owner - then I’m not surprised about Ford’s diminishing sales. Ford Australia’s last model, the FG X Falcon, is absolute rubbish which only had its drivetrain going for it. It looked like shit, had an antique, poor quality interior which will fall to pieces, and was a 10’s car which was equipped comparably to a 90’s BMW. Not surprised to see those models go anyways, given market demands. No one wants a family sedan anymore, so there goes the Fusion and Taurus. I doubt that the Fiesta and Focus sold that well in North America - aside from the hot ST and RS models sold to millenials - given American attitudes towards cars. And the C-Max looks like the kind of car that not a single buyer would specifically want - its only buyers would care about price, features and build quality - but refer to the above paragraph.
Dodge is having no trouble selling Chargers and 300s. I don't think it's that "nobody wants a family sedan" - I think it's that nobody wants a Ford family sedan. Sedans haven't been Ford's strength for a long time.
A buddy of mine actually hates the charger. If you have more than one suspect, you have to call backup just for another person. They look slick, but as a police car they kinda suck utility wise. They mostly like the Taurus because at least you can keep two people in the back of the patrol car. Plus the police version of the Taurus is actually faster than the charger.
That's weird, I know a couple local cops who loudly miss their Chargers after the department upgraded to Tauruses. Why can't you stuff two suspects into the back of a Charger?
Yeah the Charger and 300 are arguably family sedans, but they are less family-oriented compared to the Fusion and Taurus. The Charger is relatively sporty (and most non-V8 sales are probably fleet sales), while the 300 is relatively upmarket. The Fusion and Taurus are neither sporty nor upmarket, and so are more prone to competition from crossovers. The only exception is the Taurus SHO, but yeah, you’re right about no one wanting a Ford sedan. The SHO is just boring.
overall sales of sedans have been decreasing the last few years
If the person is over 6 feet, they have to lay down across due to no leg room at all to squeeze into the back. I've tried and about snapped my knees off, same with my dad who's 5 inches taller at 6'8. A lot of cops like the coolness factor of the charger, which it is slick as hell, but some prefer function > aesthetics
Charger wasn't a great police car, theirs a reason why most of them moved to the PI Sedan. Also had some transmission issues after getting high millage which is why I think they moved off of them here. I also own a PI Sedan with the twin turbo, it can beat a stock charger fairly easily.
We don't really have a lot of chases around here so the speed is probably a non-factor to them. I've never heard that about the leg room but then I've never been in the back of a cop car either. FWIW though a current gen Charger interceptor would be over a second quicker on 0-60 than the Ford PIs.
the times, they are-a changin' RIP to the classic american sedan, at least for another decade or so they might make a comeback
nope the PI sedan with the eco boost beats the charger
I love my PI Sedan just cause I feel like Mad Max with its spartan look and its full front bumper with a lot of power, I was pushing people of the parking lot with it last week when their was like 10 inches of snow. The new Taurus is fuckin' ugly and looks like a confused animal with all of its bling.
Comparing the ecoboost model to the NA Charger isn't really fair, obviously the twin turbo is going to give it an edge. An equivalently priced Charger interceptor would have the scatpack which pulls 4.5 0-60 compared to the ecoboost PI's 5.8. The non ecoboost PI (which makes up most of the PIs you see) is abysmally slow, slower than even my truck, with an almost 8 second 0-60.
Those aren't family sedans though, you listed a sports car and a luxury car.
But the price of a charger is higher than the PI. Almost all fords now have ecoboost in them now.
The V6 Charger is hardly a sports car and the 300S is hardly a luxury car.
dunno about your local PD's stock but most of the interceptors that our city PD and the county Sheriff has are all the N/A duratecs
The twin turbo PI and a Charger interceptor with a scatpack would cost about the same. Dodge doesn't list prices for a scat pack interceptor but you can build them when ordering your fleet. You are looking at a $1-2k difference at most.
Dodge isn't a luxury car maker either. I wouldn't call a single dodge vehicle a luxury car.
