Kim Jong-un has become the first North Korean leader to cross into the South since the end of the Korean War in 1953 for a historic summit with his southern counterpart.
South Korean President Moon Jae-in personally greeted Mr Kim with a hand shake at the border truce village of Panmunjom in the demilitarised zone (DMZ) between the countries.
The leaders posed for a photo together before crossing the demarcation line hand in hand, kicking off the first leadership summit between the divided countries in more than a decade.
The meeting, aimed at ending their decades-long conflict and easing tensions over the North's nuclear weapons program, comes weeks before Mr Kim is due to meet US President Donald Trump.
Mr Moon greeted Mr Kim at the military demarcation line at 9:30am (local time).
Official talks are expected to start at 10:30am at the Peace House, which has been recently updated for the summit.
Mr Kim is accompanied by nine officials, including his sister Kim Yo-jong, who led the North's delegations to the Winter Olympic Games in South Korea earlier this year.
The South's delegation include Mr Moon's ministers for foreign affairs, defence and unification.
North Korean leader Kim Jong
Saw another thread saying he was gonna do it but nothing on that he did.
Hopefully this will lead to something good.
The dick waving has gone on for long enough.
What the fuck is going on?
Why is North Korea suddenly being...."nice".
if this new train of cooperation between the two countries actually sticks, that image of them walking side by side is gonna become one of those iconic historical images
trying to get sanctions lowered
even kim knows he can't keep this up much longer

It's weird seeing the contrast between Kim's stereotypical dictator pant-suit and the more "modern" SK President's suit.
This looks so alien, seeing him cross the DMZ border.
If NK and SK ever unify I really hope they keep this Border part intact and turn it into a huge museum.
Everybody is of course right to be wary about the motives of NK but damn, so much happening so quick.
I'm tempted to pass this off as the usual mood swings NK seems to have, but I gotta say this is an unusually large step for them to take. Maybe something good might come out of this?
What did they say to eachother? It is like watching an HBO show during the climax and the sound cutting out due to your friend talking (the clapping and wind).
Their nuke-hole collapsed and they're afraid of doing further testing for fear of unleashing radioactive fall-out.
This is the first time since the Korean War that the leader has stepped foot into SK. I'm pretty sure China has a lot to do with this though
I actually welled up a little watching this.. this is so amazing to see.
Here's to a brighter future for all Koreans, and hopefully the world takes notice. There is no need for such hateful grudges, as even these two can seem to move past it (or begin to). The smiles on their faces as they crossed into eachother's country.. they knew it was the start of something great.
I was more bewildered by the contrast of his bracket-shaped chairman mao hair against a pretty common modern side part
Its good to see during an age of such stupid shit happening that maybe the king of dickwaving can make peace with the world
CNN and Fox are reporting that South Korea's foreign minister says Trump deserves a lot of credit for this. I'd make a thread for it but I'm not sure if the old rules regarding sources still hold in this section.
"Foreign Minister says thing to make Foreign power happy, more at 12..."
I don't care about Trump in this case, if the Koreas make peace that's fucking awesome
LITTLE ROCKET MAN BETTER NOT TRY ANYTHING, I HAVE A BIGGER RED BUTTON THAN HE DOES, AND MINE WORKS
What a masterful display of diplomacy, he truly is the dealmaker
What if they found something in that hole?
Well, after nuking that place so many times, there as well might have found deathclaws in there.
Fallout. They found fallout.
As others have speculated, I suspect it's largely lip service to stroke Trump's ego so he stops poking the hornet's nest.
Mufled "buy my game" inside nucler test site scares locals in North Korea, presses goverment to peace talks.
Which version?
If this is just a mood swing, I don't want to see how far in the other direction we go.
It's really weird to see Kim in the real world interacting with people and stuff
I'm cautiously optimistic about this.
But either way we're experiencing history, I just hope it's a good entry to the books rather than a bad one.
Apparently the foreign minister gives credit to Trump, but also credits Moon plenty, if not more as well.
I personally do not support damn near anything trump as done or has planned to do, but I believe it is foolish to believe he had no part in making his happen. None of us know what happens behind closed doors or what's said in private meetings. He's still the POTUS and shit like this is his job. If Obama was prez during this, we would all be praising him for his wonderful negotiating skills (that we still, just like with Trump, would not actually see). Are we now not believing other countries' foreign ministers simply because they say something positive about trump? And yeah, sure, we have evidence that publicly he's a churlish hard ass on NK (which is supporters like) but the people actually involved are saying he's figuring something out-- and while I absolutely despise trump and what he has done to this country-- I don't want that to blind me to the possibility that not EVERYTHING the man does is apocalyptic disaster.
We condemn his supporters who blatantly brand everything Obama does as negative simply because Obama's a democrat. Obama could create permanent peace in the Middle East and trump supporters would find a way to poke holes in it. This behavior annoys all of us, and this forum often has discussions debunking ignorant people behave that way. Lately, however, I feel like this behavior has been echoed quite a bit on the other side as well. We're supposed to be the side of reason and understanding, not quick assumptions based off what we think of somebody. The foreign minister of another country shared something with us, and we immediately write it off as lip service because we don't like trump? How is that any better than doing the same on the other side towards Obama?
Believe whatever you want to believe, that's how politics works. But please keep an open mind. The people you hate can do unexpected things. Leading up to this whole NK SK peace talks we have had evidence of Trump actually trying to fix the peninsular. Just before all this started Mike Pompeo visited NK, a landmark meeting that has not happened in 6 goddamn decades, and this forum just ignores that news because the Trump administration made it happen? Maybe I'm wrong, but I feel like we'd have confetti flying from the search bar if John Kerry did the same.
I also want to calrify that I know trump is a bimbo, and I'm sure he didn't make all this happen by himself. I'm sure there were lots of external factors (China, the nuclear launch collapse, etc.) that helped him quite a bit. Regardless, this is happening with his administration in office. The Norks "talk" to only four nations in this world, Russia, China, SK, and the US. This gives us, and that administration (in my opinion) a pretty good chunk of the responsibility for this. I would like to urge anyone still reading this to keep an open mind, even about politicians you hate. I don't want the progressive side of things to be reduced to "there's no way trump (or any other right wing politican) could've done this!" and writing them off without any actual consideration.
