The sounds made by someone nearby cut off abruptly after a certain distance. So abruptly in fact, that you're left wandering "did he leave the area?" or "did he heard me and is now crouched somewhere in ambush?".
So, have the sounds volume drop with range after a certain distance.
It is a subtle difference but would make a useful feature
im pretty sure they do drop, or at least voices do i think
Voices do, sounds don't (noticeably). They just cut off.
