I've heard polarizing opinions on load screen music, and I'd like to hear what the actual, real deal facepunch GMOD community thinks about it. So. Do you enjoy loading screen music? Why, or why not?
YES I LOVE BEING BLASTED IN THE EARS BY SHIT MUSIC AT 100% VOLUME I CAN'T CHANGE THAT DROWNS OUT ALL OTHER SOUND AND THOUGHT IN THE UNIVERSE Really though, no. Enjoyment is the exact opposite of what I'd call it. More like torture. I'm usually already playing music constantly elsewhere on my computer, I don't need anyone's stupid loading screen jut in at eardrum busting volumes dictating what I should listen to instead, or just playing in tandem with what I was already playing, sounding like shit because it's two wildly different songs playing at the same time, forcing me to tab out during loading (which isn't so bad in windowed/borderless fullscreen but still), pause my music, wait til the auditorial assault is over, and press play.
Absolutely not. Even if you regulate the volume so that it isn't Redfiend(?)'s video where it'll blow out your eardrums if you're using headphones, the fact that I have to take time to alt-tab out and pull up the volume mixer, mute GMod, and the unmute it once the thing's done loading is an inconvenience that can be entirely avoided. Is it a minor annoyance? Sure. But that minor annoyance will turn into a major annoyance if it's not absolutely perfect like I described, with it drowning out everything else you're doing. On the flip side, I haven't been playing nearly as much, but I have literally never seen anyone complain that loading screen music was absent from the joining sequence.
of the few times i ever play online in gmod, loading screen music is like the worst thing ever sittin there all quiet and shit, find a server like "oh hey this loo- DUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUDUDUDUDUUDUD" as im assaulted by the decibels in their purest form, basically. makes me wish we could go back to the regular load screen, it may be boring but it didnt assault both my ears and my eyes at the same time like some loading screens do.
no, I dont like loading screen music, its especially bad when im getting in a server and there is dubstep (yes its still a thing) playing at maximum volume being sand blasted in my ear. I wish there was a console command to disable loading screen music for all servers. Now if its something like elevator music thats low volume its not a problem, but regular music just does not belong in a loading screen.
Nope, I can't stand it. When I load into a server, I like to alt tab and watch YouTube while I wait for the download. I know I can just put the volume down, but then I can't hear when I enter the server, which is an inconvenience.
It's selfish.
I personally don't mind some 1/3rd volume elevator music or lobby music to keep people joining engaged or whatever, but most of the time if a server has loading music it's some 3x volume hard techno that makes my ears bleed.
No I absolutely hate it. In fact, once that dubstep beats hits I disconnect and form an unrehearsed opinion about the community/server
It seems a lot of people assume servers are blasting techno music when they join, which is a fair conclusion because they probably are, but what about playing elevator music or something similar to 'waiting' music?
Still, people will alt+tab, on every server i've worked i've just added a small script that will flash the screenafter you initially spawn (for TTT) or when you just join
That makes me less angry but it still conflicts with the music I'm playing myself. So I still don't like it and would prefer that the entire concept would fuck off forever.
Please - no! If you want to add music, switch it off by default. Offer the user the option after they connect .. save their preference in a database and read from it on the loading screen.
I hate loading screen music. When you are loading into a server for the first time it can take upto 15-20 mins. Listening to the same 500% crappy rap music for 20 minutes is not that good for your sanity in my opinion. I would be OK with quiet background music playing (like ambiant music) but nothing more.
I see literally no reason, as a host, to blast players' ears with my shit taste in music unless it's a server I actively want people not to join. To add another layer of "security" to my private server, I had it blare anus-destroying Russian music originally recorded on X-ray slides. Only intended clients knew it was coming, so they'd kill the Awesomium process before it could eradicate their anus.
No shits unbearable like 95% of the time.
From the look of everyone's responses, I think they have PTSD from the words "loading screen music". quiet elevator music that's barely audible enough to hear, but not audible enough to get annoyed by after joining several times, could be fine. I would still advise against join music though, simply because everyone's experience with it has probably been bad for the most part.
OMG never make join music in a server. Just dont. Its annoying, i have to mute gmod while i join (if i even come to the desktop), its never my type of music (even if it is i dont want, and many others dont want either) its just bad
No, not at all. Every-time a server has loading screen music it makes me not want to bother loading in as it's loud as hell and obnoxious. Also, I notice a trend that servers with loud music in loading screens have less players.
Instead of loud dubstep loading screens would sound like this: https://youtu.be/pOThJXIcVZM?list=LL4-0uT4FIHlPuyGZTUyTzZA
There was a server that had smooth jazz that wasn't too loud on a loop. I actually enjoyed it. Every other server was always too loud, however.
Fuck no. Subjecting someone to one of the most subjective forms of media? Not a good idea.
I have my own music playing and any server that dares interrupt that is a server I'm not playing on.
No, maybe if there was an option to turn it down or at least not have to hear it while tabbed out of the game then it would not be such an issue but since all players are forced to listening to what a server is making you listen to it is more annoying then enjoyable which from most people I have talked to they have agreed.
I'm getting the feeling you guys dont like loading screen music
NO
Yeah there was one server that played Jazz. I never find it to be annoying for some reason. It was like a perfect balanced of it sounding good and bad and not to loud or not too soft.
I don't play anymore, but Awesomium was always on mute for me. I usually alt-tabbed while the server made me download a billion dildo models so hearing dubstep blast in the meantime was annoying.
only if it's despacioit 2
Hell no. Shit is always loud as fuck and annoying lol
