Harvey Weinstein believes he will be forgiven by Hollywood Nope. Can't see it, and to compare himself to Mel Gibson? Last I checked Gibson wasn't accused of rape.

Yeah no Weinstein's not going to be forgiven that easily. All the shit he pulled isn't just going to go away. In another year or two the accusations, the stories, and the guilty charges will be written in textbooks about a Hollywood exec that played a long con and almost got away with it.

Weinstein is the public face of accusations and conspiracies that people have had about show business for decades, I doubt he will ever be forgiven by Hollywood or the general population.

It was less that people forgave Mel Gibson and more people forgot and stopped caring imo.

Wasn't Mel Gibson's whole thing a racist outburst? That's hell of a lot different than actual rape. The fact that he's willing to compare the two shows how little he's actually remorseful.

Forgiven, maybe not. But I have no doubt he'll make every effort to buy his way back in.

The bigger question is should we forgive Hollywood?

I mean I would be surprised if there weren't certain facets of Hollywood who would be more than happy to welcome him back with open arms if the accusations against him ever faded out of the public consciousness.

Not to make an excuse for Mel's behavior, but he was also incredibly drunk at the time. People can say dumb shit when they're under the influence. Weinstein, as far as I'm aware, had his full faculties when he abused those women.

To be fair, the Mel Gibson scandal also involved him reportedly abusing his ex, so it's not like he's innocent of crimes against women. But Weinstein is still far, far worse, in both the number and severity of his crimes. He wasn't just an asshole - he was a cold calculating monster.

Maybe Weinstein should surrender him self to the New York justice system if he believes hes so innocent and wants to go back to work. Wait

But not sexually. IIRC he was a batterer, not a rapist, and while battery is also awful it's nowhere near as awful as rape.

Rape is pretty much up there with murder in the "irredeemable crimes" category.

In my mind you can open yourself up to the world and view it differently and no longer be racist. If you rape someone it's not like you can go "yeah I don't think like that anymore" because you've still actively hurt someone.

You'll find sociopaths are incapable of such. Empathy and sympathy are two completely different things, and whilst Weinstein may possess the capacity for symapthy, you'll find empathy utterly absent, which is why he's saying the things he's saying and will likely continue to from a jail cell.

It would be great if Weinstein could redeem himself somehow but I don't see how he could do that considering what he has done. I think he could cure all cancers, eliminate HIV, and discover a much cheaper and efficient solar cell technology and people would be thankful for it but they're still not going to forgive him for what he has done.

I don't think he's defending him, I think he's saying the system is disgusting enough to make Harvey think he can normalize back into it which honestly he might be able to Because people are fucking stupid

Rapists don't deserve anyone's forgiveness. They deserve to die alone and miserable.

Why the fuck is he still not in prison?

There's a chance, really. The guy has worked on countless of big movies and he has cash flowing out of his asshole. You pay the right price in Hollywood, everything is possible.

It's not happening. Any film with Weinstein attached to it will be boycotted so much they'll lose far more than they could possible gain from having him. It would be a PR disaster and cost any company attached to the project millions. And then they'll get boycotted as well.

i doubt he'll come back for work, but i still think he probably has some influence and connections in Hollywood, which is worrying for the people that accused him who are still working in the industry.
