Verstappen shouldn't have blocked Ricciardo, but I understand why he did it. Ricciardo just gets in front on that specific corner by braking late, and then loses his position later to Verstappen. This rivalry only slows them down.
He was within his rights to block Ricciardo, but the bigger problem is that he moved twice to defend his position. Which is not allowed by the rules, of course. I think both drivers are at fault, Ricciardo did brake late after all, but more of the blame should be apportioned to Verstappen.
I don’t know what team orders are allowed in 2018, but really, Red Bull should have nipped this rivalry in the bud much earlier on. They were pointlessly at each other’s throats for much of the race.
Bottas' puncture was heartbreaking. I saw him catch some debris and called it to my pal, 20 seconds later his tyre and race were gone.
Felt bad for Grosjean, he'd done well to get to 6th, it was kinda funny though
As a track, it looks like Baku is turning out to be a discount-store Monaco with all of the shittyness and none of the especially nice bits. This track is not forgiving of risky overtakes and honestly, it seems better as a Formula E track than a Formula 1 track.
I was just as disgusted as the Red Bull steward was - just watching him walk away made me feel second-hand disappointed. As others have said - FUCK VERSTAPPEN. It's rapidly growing to the point where you just cannot explain away every single crash.
Fucking Bottas with the race resume like a greased weasel plastered a grin on my face - caught 'em all sleeping. I like the way Bottas races, he's got the sort of wily will that makes it kind of fun to watch. Was sad to watch him ultimately get bamboozled by his wheel.
Vettel, damn you, why you gotta push your car that hard and cook yo'self. You'd have kept your position if you'd just waited a wee bit longer.
I think Lewis Hamilton's closing remarks kind of speak to his run this season - specifically the reference to Lady Luck. Shit hasn't been panning out all too well for him these past couple of races.
It's strange to see Force India take a podium. That's all.
I reckon Baku is one of the better tracks on the calendar. It's very technical and although overtakes can be challenging, there are much more overtaking opportunities than many other tracks, especially Monaco. It's also not as boring to watch as many of the cookie cutter tracks.
Don't know how to feel about this one honestly. The first 40 laps were amazing, but the rest was... Well, what it was. The whole Red Bull incident is pretty crazy and neither driver is faultless. I'm a big Max fan and I want to find some way to justify it but he was too aggressive with defending. At the same time, Daniel should have known that move would never work on Max, not to mention he was never going to make the corner breaking as late as he did, even if Max hadn't been there. Even if Max hadn't gone back to the inside to block I think Daniel probably would have collected him just before the apex of T1 or if he did manage to make the turn would have pushed Max so wide he would have had no choice but to either go straight into the wall or yield entirely and brake/come off the gas just to avoid the barriers (which IMO is an entirely other issue. The FIA need to come out and address the absolute abuse of track limits that drivers have had during battles over the past few seasons. People are getting pushed all the way off the track on exit over and over again and Magnussen especially is awful with squeezing people out on the straights. He almost murdered Gasly going down the DRS straight this weekend not once but twice.) I think it just comes down to unstoppable force vs. immovable object. Verstappen was never going to yield and Daniel was never going to not go for it, even though both drivers should have known better. If Daniel had just waited another lap I think he could have gotten it cleanly, and if Verstappen hadn't blocked the second time he could have easily overtaken Ricciardo when he overcooked the corner. Just bad decisions all around.
Haas was disappointing as they have been the whole season. The car is insanely fast but Magnussen is driving the car like an axe and Grosjean has these random lapses where he bins everything out of the blue.
Bottas's tire honestly caused my jaw to drop, and Toto's reaction was priceless, so that was a positive at least.
At least the Gasman and Leclerc performed well, they've been delightful to watch so far and doing incredibly well in their first seasons. Still upset that Gasly got fucked out of the Super Formula trophy last year.
