According to local media, the tractor-trailer was traveling on the ramp from the northbound I-95 near the Walt Whitman Bridge when it overturned, spilling its cargo onto the southbound lanes below. The flying fruit hit the Honda HR-V, causing it to lose control and hit a guard rail, reported local TV station WCAU. The driver and passenger, identified as Thanh Tam Nguyen, 61, of Glenolden, Pa., had to be cut free by the Philadelphia Fire Department in the Saturday afternoon incident. According to local TV station WPVI, Nguyen and the driver were taken to a local hospital where Nguyen was pronounced dead. Officials have not yet released the driver's condition. Police said the driver of the truck suffered minor injuries.
I've heard of unlikely accidents before, but this is ridiculous. Sucks for the family.
Was imagining that it was some cocksuckers dropping them off the overpasses again, not some random drive-by meloning. Fuck dude
things falling off of trucks into my car is my worst nightmare
I refuse to drive behind trucks that have an open bed.
Happens all the time, too. On my way to my first driving test I had to swerve to avoid a wooden credenza that fell off of a truck full of furniture in front of me. It was a scary reminder of some of the things you might not expect that you have to keep an eye out for on the road. I still didn't pass that driving test.
My favorite is when you have a truck full of some sort of loose shit like chunks of gravel or something, and it's uncovered because fuck you enjoy your windshield-scuffing bullets.
My girlfriend had a truck infront of her spill sheet metal out the top at high speed, luckily she was far enough away that it just got instantly sucked under the car and didnt decapitate her. Regardless, it speared right through her mudflaps and tires. Scary shit.
I had a truck drop a 10 foot fuckin aluminum ladder infront of my car and the only reason I didn't have a bad collision was because I swerved the correct direction, randomly, and there just happened to not be another car in the adjacent lane.
There needs to be more roadworthiness checks on trucks in general. Having a car driving around with metal to metal brakes is one thing, but having a big fucking truck driving around with no brakes is a disaster waiting to happen
The average watermelon weighs about 6KG. Imagine getting hit by one
When I was driving from Texas back to Vermont a turkey flew out of the back of a truck and smashed into my windshield...
They aren't soft fruit, either like grapes or oranges can be. They may have a squishy inside, but that's only after you've cut it open and demolished the internal structure, along with the very hard outer shell. It's a small cannonball at high enough speed.
I had a truck carrying large gravel chunks pop off a little piece that cracked my fucking windshield and I didn't realize that it had happened until the truck had pulled off and I couldn't see the plate anymore. Oh and as long as we're on the "I nearly died" train, several gigantic carpet rolls were dropped on the 5 freeway, and I didn't see it until I nearly collided with it because the driver in front of me swerved at the literal last second. They were large enough that the collision could have easily been fatal given the road speed.
Invest in a good dash cam, they are worth every penny.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WOYoMJkPLJk Honestly I find this to be far much worse of a thing to think of when seeing this thread. Having worked as a driver years ago this is one of my worst fears to have happened with any cargo. I had one of the doors on a trailer swing open while driving once and made a very quick stop to make sure everything was secure. Thankfully everything was secure as hell, none of the appliances inside moved an inch. Been paranoid ever since.
I watched three pieces of drywall fly off of a truck yesterday that I had been driving behind not even a minute prior. Luckily nobody was behind him at the moment. This kind of accident is real, and scares the shit out of me.
