• Building 4.0 (Block lengh & width increased)

I think the Block area needs to be increased by 33.3%. Understandably making such a change would take a lot of work since all the blocks would have to be modified to some degree. Wall frames would have to be given a condition, so if a wall frame is empty it would look like wooden/metal support beams, when you place an insert, the frame would change to fit that insert. The Roof block would have to be updated aswell. the Stair blocks could look like they do in the picture. the upper floor slot would be occupied. Only the length and width would have to change, the Height could remain the same. https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/1643/2e49c263-2ec7-4816-bcf9-6d43905e3fcc/Stair concept.PNG
ye. cool
Do you imagine the amount of work? They have barely been able to make one roof change (praise the ancestors!) Just for stairs? Use 1 furnace instead and jump on it.
Yup. lotta work. This is something I think should have been done along time ago.
Good luck with that, have to change the door frame, wall frame, prison wall, prison wall gate, double doors, window frame as well as those already mentioned by you, Been trying for a long time to get the hanging sign to be allowed to be fastened to walls (again) and to allow standing signs to be able to be placed on roofs, no luck, the change you want made would take them months of work for no obvious benefit to the game (as far as i can see)
Not everything has to be changed, I'm pretty sure most of the Wall frame/ floor frame inserts can remain as they are, with the exception of fences, jail, and floor grate, The benefit is bases can be more spacious, How much do you like getting stuck in a triangular airlock when one of your buddies rushes in with you?
but wait... why? Whats the point and whats wrong with the current system that you are proposing such a change? Let's start there....
main reason, I'm sick of having to crouch to go up stairs. Legacy ramps were better.
you mean like if the stairs are in a 1x1 and there is a doorway there? Yeah I guess I see your point... and I mean Im all for better (friendlier?) usability and interface...
but of course, like everyone and their mother have already said. me included, it's not a quick task. but it give building blocks a more Polished feel. instead of being slapped togeather to see how things fit together. It would also help cut down on Doors Clipping through walls and such. and you would also not get stuck behind a door. or possibly pushed through a wall.
I dont use triangular airlocks which i regard as some kind of a joke, I never have any difficulties with stairs as i use ladder hatches to deter raiding and looting, all my bases are spacious without changing the format we have now, the wall/floor frames have to change if you are using larger wall/floor blocks , anyway good luck with it.........cant see it happening
just curious (and no - I won't judge) - are you playing vanilla or some kind of 2x/3x with some modified settings (like no twig raiding, etc)?
No i dont build 2x/3x bases, my normal base is 7lx6wx6h , And yes i play on a heavily modded server (who cares who judges) which i have played on for the last 2-3 years, There is no twig raiding , there is decay on twig/wood/stone bases, there is no cupboard decay , There are Npc bots at every monument, there are scientists where ever the game puts them, there are extra bears/wolves/zombies scattered all over the map and meteor showers that can take down a stone roof/walls, the heli will kill anyone regardless of what they are carrying, all monuments have periodic random radiation so its a fun place to be, I sometimes take a break and play on a vanilla server but find that the loot is repetitious (who likes picking up the same three objects 20 times in a row) and find waiting 2 minutes to craft a stone hammer boring as ***** but everyone has their own choices, and right now there are twice as many players online on community servers and 2 1/2 times more on modded as there are on Official servers (where the player per server number is higher), so plenty of choices https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/166849/6d0ec2d1-8281-4d31-91d8-00ff4efb02c5/store room.jpg https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/166849/e62eb270-b21c-4283-bae2-da126213f400/20180502111203_1.jpg
Ok thanks for posting, I just wanted to see your perspective. Also that huge HQM base is not on a 2x/3x server you say? So you are able to get it like that on vanilla resource gain?!? (although you did mention no decay and thus no upkeep on metal and up...so I guess you get there slowly)... Triangular airlocks are also a must on vanilla, as that is the best way to airlock your base, you could still play without them, but you would be inefficient and over-paying upkeep if you used squares for example (extra walls)... not sure about the player numbers, I just looked in the game (given that its 9:40 am in US) and saw the following: https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/113309/c9660a6d-311f-4451-b3a0-1e19ed767eb0/image.png Community has like 40x as many servers, and only 2x the players (AVG 2 player/server), Modded has 2.5x players but close to 50x servers (AVG 2.2 player/server)... Officials have average player pop of 40 players per server... Its definitely good to look at the numbers...I mean its kind of obvious if you want to play on populated servers are vanilla - you gotta do official. Although there are some cool unofficial vanilla servers out there as well with very good pop (Rustafied, etc) Anyway my main point with this was that @Chevleon is probably playing on vanilla and @Thraag1 is not, so your perspective on things like crowded bases or airlocks or stairs will vary based on your given server environment (server mods+ settings).
your assumption is correct, I play Vanilla.
* So you are able to get it like that on vanilla resource gain?!? The answer to that is in my post which you quoted (?) And yes i play on a heavily modded server Those mods include Zlevels, Betterloot and Quicksmelt which (horrified gasps/fainting from Vanilla disciples !!) reduces the time somewhat, But as they are available to anyone who plays it does not give anyone an advantage except (as is always the case) new players, but the longer they stay the more they get, If they want to jump in the server and expect to get full benefits they are sadly mistaken. you get what you work for, One thing to point out is that i never go for the doors when raiding, if the base is "airlocked" with two or three doors its much easier to go through the walls or take out a foundation than the doors, and on this server you cant use ladders or twig raiding so it has to be c4 or rockets to get in anywhere,
How Dare you taint this vanillian thread with your Modifian propaganda! Just kidding, I dabble in Modded servers every now and then, I'm just used to grindy games.
I played a grindy game for 11 years for about 50-60 hours a week, so i am having a rest now, I also player about 3-4 thousand hours on vanilla.
I like this idea, I do get annoyed when my head hits the roof of the double door frame when going up stairs. And the stupid door half way over the stairs.
