Some 47 towns and cities across the UK are at or have exceeded air pollution limits set by the World Health Organization, its new report has found.
The WHO data shows 32 areas have fine particle air pollution levels above 10 micrograms per cubic metre, with the remaining 15 at that limit.
Areas that exceeded the level include London and Manchester, with the Welsh steelworks town Port Talbot the worst.
while many UK towns had air pollution recorded at or above the WHO's recommended limit, in a number of places the levels are falling.
In London, for example, levels fell from 17 to 11 micrograms from 2013 to 2015, while in the same period it fell from 17 micrograms to 12 in Sheffield.

Ah Scunthorpe,
In addition that isn't nice place to be, see, hear the name of, stay, its now not a nice place to breathe.
Might be an idiot but can't immediately see any Scottish towns there. Ya beauty
Don't worry Britain, you guys still don't have shit on Shanghai's Air Pollution.
fuck yes boys salford strong gonna die by the age of 25
Getting rid of diesels from city centres will drop this substantially in most places.
No surprises there then.
*According to whom.
Prestonpans is near Edinburgh, right next to Cockenzie coal fired power station which was recently decommissioned, it's probably still suffering the after effects.
Yeah whenever I go down to Port Talbot you can just smell how bad the air is, it's pungent.
I honestly feel sorry for the people who live near that place.
yeah... our high is a developing country's low.
I remember seeing a list like this a few years ago and Port Talbot was also at the top so not too surprising. Since it's by area I wonder if they are counting the steelworks as part of the town or not, considering the steelworks is actually bigger than the town itself.
We live just 20 mins down the road but pollution levels are all fine here, definitely wouldn't want to live there though.
