An Air National Guard cargo plane has crashed near Savannah/Hilton Head International Airport. Video from near the scene shows thick, black smoke billowing from the crash
site from behind a commercial building. Savannah's Chatham Emergency Management Agency tweeted that a plane had crashed at an intersection near the airport.
Witness James Lavine said he was driving home from work along Highway 21 when the plane crashed in front of him. "It was getting ready to take a left bank right in front of me and all
of a sudden I see the plane just stalling" before it crashed, he said. "It's the most terrifying thing I've seen." The airport said some flights were being affected by the "aircraft incident
off property." Customers should check with their airline prior to clearing security, the airport warned.

Jesus, is this like the 3rd cargo craft thats crashed?
There were a few fighters that crashed a little earlier, not transport aircraft.
Confirmed: 5 dead. No survivors.
That was my concern.
I don't give much a damn about the plane, or even its contents. That all just boils down to money and can be replaced.
So long as everyone made it out okay, this would have just been an unfortunate accident in my book.
Fucking terrible to hear that isn't the case, though. The only things I cared about in this accident, and it came out sour. I hope they're able to figure out what the cause of the crash was, and if there was a technical component, be able to correct it so that this doesn't happen again.
According to a couple eyewitness accounts, it appears that the plane stalled. Steep bank angle turn combined with too much pullback on the yoke, combined with low airspeed can easily screw you and you will crash.
CBS: Live
"Right when it came over a set of trees there, I saw it do a roll upside down," Jimmy Livingston said. "When it rolled upside down, it did a complete straight turn into the ground."
Fox: Military plane crashes near Georgia airport, FAA says | Fox News
“I could see [the plane] above the tree line and it looked kind of low like it was curving in toward street, but I see them all the time, so I didn’t think anything of it,” Jones said. “I looked down and then looked back up and it didn’t look like it nosedived, but it almost looked like it stalled and just went almost flat right there in the middle of the highway.”
If it's upside down it's pretty much game over. My condolences to the families
There's video. I'm not gonna share out of respect for the dead, families might not all have been notified yet. Puerto Rico Air Guard, on it way to the boneyard. No one was walking away from that. I feel sick to my stomach and angry. Odds I knew anyone are fairly low, but I traced the lineage and there's decent odds I flew on that aircraft several years ago. Aircrew is a small community, and -130s are smaller still. They were family.
Can we stop needlessly killing my brothers and sisters? I think we're on track for a record number of fatal aviation disasters.
The Marines lost a plane of Force Recon guys flying over Mississippi a few months ago. I was in the clean up crew, aircraft crashes/explosions fucking suck. At least this one apparently happened before the plane was all the way in the air so they won't have to canvass miles to find everything.
Could it be possible the cargo came loose and fucked with the center of gravity? There's a really clear video of this happening with a 747 that just goes straight up, stalls, then crashes, in about 300 feet total of altitude
Reports I saw said it was a WC-130 - the version modified for weather reconnaissance, aka hurricane hunting - and that it was on a training mission. I wouldn't expect it to have been carrying heavy cargo.
Capgun said earlier in the thread that it was on its way to the boneyard. Likely no cargo, just an old-ass plane headed to the junkyard.
I wonder if it was pilot error or mechanical failure?
Up to 9 now, had maintainers on board as well.
