Nostalgia Critic: Starship Troopers and The Emoji Movie

I feel like these two videos are him inching back to the original format; No skits, no preachy messages, a wrap up at the end, and the occasional cartoon from Doug himself. He's currently suffering through The Emoji Movie.

Never been a fan of this guy. He's so horribly skin deep and just wants to squeeze in a joke here and there.
A great review of the movie here:

Yeah, i dunno if i can sum up the emoji movie better than this video tbh.
It's so fucking vapid that it barely is a movie.

also idk if i can stomach another nostalgia critic video after all that has happened.
Eh to each their own. I thought the jokes about Starship Troopers mirroring our world and laughed it. to be funny. For the Emoju movie, I can't believe He mentions the Spiderman and Elsa videos halfway into the video. Ofc Red Letter Media is better, because FP seems to like them a bit much.
After seeing RLM's review of Starship Troopers, I don't think good old Dougie could bring anything new to the table.
no skits
please god let it be true
Yeah, there isn't any skits, but the as video still isn't as funny his old video
well, the good thing about this is that i'm not probably going to bother with NC anymore, the formula is dead as it gets and this probably was the confirmation i needed. Its not funny, it doesn't add anything and it's just overcompensating with skits that doesnt add anything at all to the commentary "for the sake of" enforcing it is a comedy.
His old videos were never really funny, his humor was still really bad. You just outgrew it.
He seems to miss a lot of stuff in Starship Troopers.
Like when he's complaining about the amputee shaking Rico's hand with the bionic.
And yet the formula of "Acting tired as if you're done with life, mumbling your lines, awkwardly starring at the camera, and overblown set destruction" hasn't been tried with no additions 10x? By that logic RLM's formula is just as unfunny because it's what they used over and over again. NC(controversies notwithstanding) and RLM have a niche that they each fill very well.
If anything I'm not particulary a fan of RLM either, but I enjoyed their approach to the movie more simply because they did not told me what i already knew, and the whole "dead inside" persona feels more natural than "i suffer physical pain watching movies" one. the "content commentary" formula is as old as 2005 and if anything the only factor that truly leaves an impact, as proven by the AVGN, is not humor- its production value. humor can't make an everlasting impact on anythng given a joke is as good as the times it gets told, and by the time you watch it on youtube its already old. NC's formula has been dead for a while now, and while they have their audience, the inclusion of the skits and gags isn't making it any more fresh than it was 10 years ago.
hell, the only reason i wanted to watch this is because i like ST, not because i want to hear the NC's commentary on it.
