• Climate change intensifies droughts in Europe

https://phys.org/news/2018-04-climate-droughts-europe.html Already, many rivers in the Czech Republic are pretty on the verge of drying up. http://www.intersucho.cz/runtime/cache/images/intro2/userfiles-image-aw-2015-180429AWP_CR.png This map here shows how had the situation is. It is 4 days old. The white areas have "no risk of drought" and the darkest shade of red is "extreme drought". I live in the south, in the reddish-orange area. For now, the plants here still have enough moisture from the snow that melted in winter, but there wasn't nearly enough. Everything is blooming and growing like crazy, but there is very little rainfall. Never enough or long enough to soak into the soil. I think we're pretty much fucked. I've seen a couple of our major rivers and their water levels dropped by several meters since 2015 and they are still dropping at a steady rate. Each summer since 2015 had our well almost dry up and we couldn't really flush the toilets, wash ourselves, do the dishes, or anything. The whole situation was only being made worse by my grandmother who felt the fucking need to water our garden twice a day, because fuck our needs, her plants can't be allowed to wither! And there are still people who fucking argue that the whole thing is only a ploy to make us pay more money for water because now there's "supposedly" less water and it's only due to our greedy politicians. Like, for fuck's sake, can't these people get it in their heads that it's definitely not normal that since the last 8 years or so, we've been hitting and going past the highest temperatures recorded in the last 100 years almost every year? Even if these people accept the fact that the climate's been getting progressively warmer each year, they just go "Oh, well, nothing we can do it about, it is a natural phenomenon and it would happen even if we weren't here." or the good ol' fucking "Humanity has been very unkind to the Mother Nature and this is her way of repaying us. Mother Nature will find a way to get rid of this invasive species and she'll still be here long after we're gone."
The most terrifying thing is that we're already noticing these changes. When I was younger I never thought I'd experience them during my lifetime.
Also that there are people in power who profit off of denying it and enabling contributing to the shift.
You can bet your ass that the water bottling companies such as Nestlé are going to be make a shitload of money off of people that desperately need water. 2015 and 2016 was so bad that even a local water bottling company ran out of water though and they told us they weren't able to deliver any more.
Yeah the weather is getting absolutely insane. I'm not sure how the fuck we'll survive the next year.
America is the second biggest emitter behind China. While China is going all in on reducing emissions, more than half of American's don't believe global warming will seriously affect them, and roughly about half of America's politicians don't even believe it's happening. I'm going to guess "a bit longer".
It's fucking annoying how religion is behind a lot of denial, too, as well as blind capitalistic pride
I think we're going to be waiting a lot longer than just "a bit". We can see the results of climate change with our very own eyes. Like, Czech Republic isn't a huge country, all you need to is just go out to your local pond or lake and you don't need an expert to tell you that there's a lot less water there than there used to be. And while you're still there, you can have a look around and see all the cracked dried mud and yellow dry grass and no rain cloud in sight. People could literally do this now. They could've been doing it every year since 2015. They see it's bad. They can see how fucked up it is. But they won't admit that it's time to change things up a bit in order for us to survive this. No, they'd rather just go "Oh well, we've been hurting Mother Nature for centuries and now it's back to hurt us. Nothing we can do about it!" and it's all business as usual for them.
Yeah, checks out. Sweden this time of year isn't supposed to be as hot as it was the past few weeks. We had summer temperatures in spring. It's kind of gone back down now but it does make me wonder, if it's been this hot already then how hot is this summer going to be and issues will that heat bring with it?
A big part too is just good old partisan politics. Only one of the two major parties has solutions for global warming, much less acknowledges it is occuring, but is wrapped up in their own fight for identity amongst different factions of liberals. But neither faction seems particularly supportive of nuclear power which IMO is needed to replace coal plants. People who otherwise feel like global warming is an important issue don't want to vote for the Democrats because they disagree with just about everything else on their platform, and the Republicans actively want to make things worse. And this doesn't even touch on people like the President of the United States saying over and over again how global emissions agreements like the Paris agreement are really just a conspiracy to reduce American economic strength.
Trying to get the data for this from the German agencies. Will get back to this once I have it
Will desalinization be our only solution for these droughts?
At this point anyone who denies global warming needs to be shot into space.
The obsessive nature of Republicans with "CLEAN COAL" needs to die fast, coal is not going to function for long as a viable energy source and never going to be clean, not when electricity is so much better. It's funny but Night in the Woods was spot on when it comes to coal. It really is similar to cult of crusty old lunatics worshipping some cave-spirit, many of them have this aspiration that the 'good old days' will come around but they don't realize that the old days have passed and that the modern world is a way different place than it was before Coal needs to be replaced, it's never going to 'make america good again'. It seems Republicans are willing to double down on making coal even more of an unclean energy by deregulating it as much as possible.
At this rate, we need to find another planet for those who know its real, and leave those who deny back on this rock that wants to kill em.
This rock doesn't want to kill them, they want to kill themselves.
Holy crap, seeing all the plants and trees bloom and then seeing them slowly dry out just a week or so after that is really fucking terrifying. Everything was super green just last week and looking out of my window at work right now I can see all the trees around turning yellow. And it's not even summer yet. That's the scary part. If this is what it it's like now, what's it going to be like in summer?

Forever, because in western society you can't criminalize someone solely for being an idiot.
A few years ago Texas had one of the worst droughts ever, our lakes, rivers, ponds, etc dried up. Areas started having major water shortages, some cities started recycling waste water, others had to import water in. Prices went up and restrictions began. Things got bad enough where we where actually counting down into the double digits the days where we were going to run out of water. When you take natural things like lakes, rivers, and other water sources for granted and the fade away in what seems like in a matter of weeks it is an awful feeling.
I was in a small town in south-west Ukraine 2 weeks ago and the river flowing through the town looked a lot like the second picture in OP. Only about a 3 feet deep when it should normally be at least 9. They were in the process of burning their crop fields and getting ready for the season when I had arrived. So I wonder if water is going to be an issue for the slightly more remote locations in Europe.
Well, the people in the cities here are fine for now, it's the countryside that's drying out. I'd say most of the people in the countryside rely on their own wells, just like my family does, and the wells are drying up and if they dry up before the first half of summer then I really have no idea what will happen then.
There have been random, hour long or so snowstorms on and off randomly over the day for the past 3 days. Full on snowstorms like it was the middle of december. last year it was snowing in June, this year id be happy with just 1 month of summer tbh.
We're not, but there's going to be much worse refugee crises than what we've seen so far if nations don't act fast.
Yah but guys it snowed in the south Midwest this April, global warming can't be that bad. We all know if it's true for my narrow worldview it's probably true for the whole world. Quit worrying!
Nothing to see here. Certainly nothing to tell the governments, and corporations of the world to fucking stop No siree
Something is wrong when Minneapolis had it's 12th or 16th (can't remember which) WORST snow storm in recorded history, in the middle of April. And anyone who trys (and there will be people) to use this to prove climate change isn't real is a danger to humanity.
Hey mate just introduce some.drought tolerant native australian trees, thatll sort you out ;) But really youre overreacting a little, its not all doom and gloom just yet, but maybe in a couple of decades
Worst part was 115F Degree weather and no lake to swim in.
Then you have places like Ute Lake, NM where if the water gets too low, they pump well water into it because tourism is the only way that dusty-ass little town makes any money.
