What on Earth? Where are they going to hide 10 stolen brand new Rams? What are they going to do with them??? It can't be worth the risk just to chop-shop them, the parts aren't that expensive.
They had a buyer already, probably some drug cartel that needed trucks to move product.
Theft is bad but not gonna lie that's kinda sick.
wonder if they can track the VINs thropugh the nav system or SOS system
But why brand new trucks? That strikes me as pretty inconspicuous.
GM vehicles probably, though they'd have to know what vins were stolen first, not an easy task given there are usually tens of thousands of trucks in a lot
Makes me wonder if it was some kind of ulterior motive. If you need trucks for running shit cross-borders then you've got hundreds of options-- stealing stuff off the streets is probably less likely to get you assfucked by Big Corporate, but stealing ten Rams right out of the gate? I dunno, man...
Now admittedly, my experience in drug smuggling could be described as "amateur" at best and more conservatively a "hobbyist", "enthusiast", or "no experience", but I think that when smuggling drugs, an open top flatbed may not be the best way to fool DEA or Border Patrol
There's more than just the open bed to smuggle things in on a truck, or at least, judging by The French Connection, there used to be, but if you're trying to move large quantities, regular pickup trucks are not gonna cut the mustard.
Crummy isn't really the word I'd use. Rams hold their value better than any other truck on the market... my 8 year old Ram is still valued at $21,000.
The theory offered in the article is that they were taken directly to a port and loaded into already waiting containers to be shipped offshore immediately. If that's the case they could be bound for the Middle East, I'm not sure where else they would be going.
Huh, I figured Toyota held that title, although I have an admitted bias towards them.
You mean Toyota trucks?
I haven’t seen a Ram that wasn’t a rust bucket with the wheel flares gone or lost most of its value after a few years.
Maybe up north? Around here in Texas Rams make up the vast majority of trucks you'll see, followed by F150s. They are often pretty beat up but I've never seen them rusted out.
Probably an up north thing. Trucks can get pretty crusty after about a decade of Michigan winters.
Yeah from going through auction prices it seems like Rams do best in southern states.
Nah I'm thinking like they're moving stuff around in South America where no one cares, i just say it as a possible reason as theirs been cases in the past where drug lords have stolen shit rather than just bought it (like a 727)
Modern Pickup Trucks are expensive.
Tbh I think the Ram is probably the only Chrysler vehicle that benefitted from Fiat.
Here in NJ I’ve seen the flare sections around the wheels, corners and the majority of the bed sides completely gone due to rust on Rams—but those are typically pre-2010 before Ram became their own brand. Even before Fiat, Chrysler/Dodge lacked in QC.
the newer models don’t really show rust but now it’s like every year there is another recall on them.
But in NJ Ford dominates the half ton representation but Toyota dominates small trucks with the Tacoma.

They found two of them. The official number of trucks missing is eight.
What I'm more interested in is how they got the keys or started them. As a locksmith, I have software that can program keys and stuff, but not very quickly.
The keys [most likely proximity keys] must've been in the trucks or they had them prior.
I don't see why factory-new trucks would have their keys anywhere but in the cockpit itself or a nearby relatively unprotected box.
If you wanna get drugs past border patrol you get yourself a nice grey 2003 toyota corolla. No one has ever looked twice at a 2003 corolla
Holding value doesn't mean much, though. They may hold their value well, but they're built by a company who's overall quality went up when they were bought out by Fiat.

6 of the 8 trucks have been found, one was stripped clean and another was found with no damage, and a pocket BIble in the driver door.
