It's become more and more clear in time that it's a less a matter of not understanding and more a matter of them both not caring and wanting to phase out content that they can't control
Advertisers run ads between news of mass shootings, they don't actually give a fuck about the content itself. What they care about is a platform they control.
If YT isn't internally worried about Twitch, they need to be. Twitch has the possibility to be the YouTube killer everyone has been asking for if they add the ability to upload pre-recorded content.
The fact that people can say that twitch is better than youtube is p. hilarious
Have an actual read of their TOS and how they lock streamers to their platform, and they still engage in the basic machine-learning copyright enforcement.
Also the rules are even LESS consistent on twitch, YouTube seems to mostly just make exceptions with channels that are directly ran by businesses, whereas twitch's rule enforcement is just all over the place.
No such thing as an "app to kill youtube", just an "App to maybe compete"
Look at how many failed video sites we've seen. It's not exactly an easy task.
Only way I can see a youtube competitor working is if they automatically pruned videos, which is a compromise I can't see many people being willing to make.

Please no, Twitch is a giant game of nepotism. They are on the same road as YT where ad revenue is king and if you don't bring the ad money then they shit all over you and ban you for the most inconsistent things.
Which is sad, because streamsites like Picarto.tv are pretty damn spot on with their community.
I don't really give a fuck about watching any of those people on the list besides The Slowmo Guys.. He's right.. they've just wiped the majority of decent weedtubers left like xCodeh and bring us trash instead.
I have seen several streaming sites that handle things easily 10x better then Twitch but these sites simply can't generate the ad revenue to attract streamers, which is kind of a deadly loop considering if other platforms wanted to lick the asses of ad providers they would without a doubt follow the same road as twitch. Besides that, getting discovered on any other streaming sites besides Twitch is difficult.
