• [PewDiePie] - I DON'T LIKE MARVEL MOVIES

I thought this was a pretty damn accurate reflection of at least my thoughts on superhero movies these days, especially the Avengers and X-MEN franchise (I still like Deadpool tho, but in my opinion at least Deadpool has something unique to offer). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zv7mc3TygO4
I think the movies are okay. They're good "junk food" movies meaning I can turn my brain off and have a good time. I don't think I could repeat watch many of them and most are simply average. I commend them greatly though for Avengers though - truly a marvel in film history that took years of preparation to get to.
I think part of the problem is the constant reuse of the "OMG THEY'RE GOING TO DESTROY THE WORLD/UNIVERSE" plot. It's been done god knows how many times now and it's totally lost it's impact. One of the things I liked about Spiderman Homecoming was it wasn't another one of those, it was a simple story about a bad guy who wants to make money and was relatively small scale. It was a real breath of fresh air.
They feel too samey. The only one's that I'd say are really must-sees are Iron Man 1, Winter Soldier and Infinity War. They all have good villains, don't exactly feel the same and are well-made. Marvel follows their formula too strongly and is taking too few risks.
good for him I'm apathetic about the Marvel films as well, tbh. A few catch my eye here and there (the first few Captain Americas), but nothing I've rushed to go see as of yet.
Over-saturation, while valid, is only as much of a problem as you make it. What I simply do is just ignore most of them, so that when I watch Spider-man Homecoming it isn't too bad.
I think the best marvel films are the ones that stand on its own without cameos tbh
I've hated them ever since they became an ~expanded universe~. They are virtually all cut and paste in terms of writing, with the visuals being the main driving factor as far as progress is concerned. The only reason I enjoyed Doctor Strange and Ant Man was due to the visuals basically, but I will concede that Guardians of the Galaxy was genuinely good.
Agreed. Same can be said with Marvel Netflix; for example in Daredevil season 2 the quality drop when they transitioned from the Punisher story into the Hand plotline was jaw dropping-ly horrible. Although I'm also kind of conflicted about Homecoming because of the decision to make Spider-Man Iron Man's secret apprentice and give him a billion dollar suit with its own AI and weapons system almost as soon as he gets his powers.
Well guess what, they'll beat the dead horse till its nothing because its making shit tons of money.
Sorry, but I have to say, most of his points in this video are pretty garbage. Who gives a crap about oversaturation when almost every single one of the more recent movies has been critically acclaimed? Why complain about them not being realistic and using too much CGI? Like, no shit, it's a comic book movie. Do you expect them to actually demolish NYC for the battle of New York in the Avengers? And most of the makeups are practical; the actors don't look cool because of the animators, some of them are just plain good and funny actors. How does a cult around the movies affect the movies themselves? And wow, a crowd cheering for an actor appearing on stage? It's almost like he's a celebrity and people are fans of this actor! How absolutely insane, someone lock these crazies up!!!
Wait, when did Pewdiepie stop screeching and telling rape jokes while playing shitty video games?
Did he forget that Infinity War is a thing? I' pretty sure EVERYONE and their mother is singing their praises for the movie.
It's annoying when people get angry if you don't like something they like; it's completely childish. But it's equally and annoying and childish when people put themselves on a pedestal and think they're important or special for not liking something popular.
My biggest problem is the humour. Every character cracking jokes is just boring. I mean when the fucking HULK is used as comedy relief, something is wrong. Otherwise I loved IW and enjoyed the last few MCU films considerably.
Have you been hiding under a rock for the past 2 years or something
No, why should I keep up with someone that I don't like?
I watched the Marvel Cinematic Universe from The Incredible Hulk up to the first Avengers movie. My thought was "Eh" and i stopped watching. They're OK movies, but i think everyone overhypes them. And now i have significant fatigue because there are multiple movies and shows a year.
My only real problem with the MCU and all the offshoot cinematic universes from other producers is that they totally fill up the movie space. Not enough diversity in theatres in terms of genre and target demographic and its hard to even hear about other movies when Disney totally overwhelms advertising. I have to say, I really loved the newest Thor movie though. The art department knocked it out of the park with that one, stylistic sci-fi romp.
To be fair, since he mentioned the X-Men movies too, Logan is a pretty different superhero movie that doesn't stick to the usual formula but actually feels like something more unique
Infinity war isn't the finish of that story though, they'll clearly all come back in the next one. People saying they're all "dead" is silly
It still made a ton of money, got great scores, and people are hyped for the next one. Even people who initially think the other films are "eh" say that it's good.
Its following the exact same formula as ususal though. Its just that in this case its going to be over the span of 2 movies.
i dont remember the last marvel movie where pretty much literally everybody fucking died
This was the reason I stopped watching Doctor Who, they were just reusing the same shit over and over again, like why does everything have to be about the world ending or universe ending or time ending or something fucking massive, just do something small scale as you said.
Consider this the midway point of a normal marvel movie. Its the "Dark before the light moment" they're all going to be revived.
One thing that really annoys me about Pewdiepie is while all his arguments in this video are roughly agreeable the dude just fucking rambles and rambles and makes points so badly that he kind of undermines himself by being near incomprehensible. Something seems just so strange to me about watching this dude that is 'the biggest youtuber' (at least ostensibly) ramble to his camera without seeming to even have a script and then having him plug this merch shit at the end so you can 'support his channel' which is basically about rambling in to a camera. I stopped liking his content a while back because while his sense of humor has changed it seems like he's dipped heavily in to low effort content.
This honestly. I mean more power to him on just creating content he wants to make and let out his opinions freely, and I guess if he can keep having viewers no matter how much effort he puts out, can't blame him for not trying, but at the same time you'd think the most subscribed channel on YouTube would at least try to have better presentation than most out there. Even cr1tikal's lower budget setup and his Moist Meter reviews are more coherent and presentable in comparison. Pewds even keeps re-using the same 'memes' and editing tricks. There's a difference between having a signature and just having a lazy copy paste of every single thing from your previous videos, and it definitely shows no matter what topic is he talking about. He feels like a copycat of all the more popular YouTube stuff recently like h3h3/idubbz/dunkey/jackfilms but with way less of the same comedic timing and production quality, which is ironic given how much bigger Pewd's channel is.
Yes it's tropey that's obvious, it's based on a comic from a long time ago that's kinda what superhero comics are all about. Don't pat yourself on the back because you can tell that everything's gonna be all right in the end. I got spoiled on the whole details of Infinity War by choice because I honestly stopped caring about these movies, and hearing about everything made me go bring a friend to see the movie. It's less about the overall arc and more about how they execute visually and emotionally to me, and Infinity War pt 1 really got me hyped for the sequel just to experience them figuring everything out.
I always did find it silly whenever people point out 'BUT THEY'RE ALL GOING TO LIVE IN THE NEXT ONE ANYWAYS'. It's kind of like saying wrestling is fake and just missing the entire point of why people like them in the first place.
