While I don't want any conflict with Russia, I really hope this is a sign that we aren't fucking around with them anymore, even if Trump has Putin's hand so far up his as he's tickling his tonsils.
I'm pretty sure that ain't a hand.
Sure it is, how else could he be holding up that appl-
Oh... Oh dear...
WHY. You aren't going to use ships to shoot at Russians. Fuck the hell off. Decommission half the navy and use the massive savings to balance the budget and unfuck healthcare/education.
I'm not a military expert, but the navy is important for providing support to air force and ground troops. The navy has the 2nd largest air force on earth after the US Air force. Additionally, the navy keeps all those submarines with nukes
By tonnage the US navy is the largest navy in the world.
It is so large that if you take the largest navies in the 2-11 slots and combined them, the US navy would still be larger.
Meanwhile the US itself is essentially impervious to any sort of invasion, amphibious or otherwise, by way of simple geography.
We can still field carriers. We just don't need to field 11 SUPER carrier battle groups. (plus however many amphibious assault carriers). For comparison, there is only one other carrier in the world that even holds the classification of a super carrier. The French field it. The Brits are building one, but they fucked up and installed a ski jump instead of a catapult, which makes the entire ship utterly worthless.
It is worth noting that between refuelling, refits, transit time, standard maintenance etc, you're looking at a 3-1 ratio of groups vs those actually deployed.
Heaven forbid we only deploy warships when we actually have a real conflict to fight.
