This is honestly the best way to play this game now, emulators offer higher resolutions but I found I experience quite a lot of audio hitches and graphical issues. It holds up really well and I still prefer it to 2012 in terms of gameplay (not that 2012 is a bad game imo).

2012 apparently did really well in comparisons to EA's expectations so I'm surprised we've not see another SSX game this generation

Possibly, but then there is very little effort required on EA's part in order to get Backwards Compat games such as this on One S & X. They don't touch the game at all and simply give Microsoft the go ahead to allow the game to appear on the emulator and to be sold via the Xbox Store. EA will see money from this still regardless.

I feel SSX is going to end up like Skate, stuck in that state where another game would be well received and welcomed but they just don't want to go through with it.
