And pro-putin people would cheer about this.
Russia is a cautionary tale - it's what the United States is heading towards, and fast. Where the vast majority of the populace doesn't care for democracy, doesn't care for freedoms, only cares that the demagogue they're supporting gains or keeps power. Much of Trump's base already perfectly embodies this sickness.
To some, it's a cautionary tale. To others, it's what they aspire to be. Unfortunately a lot of right-wingers in this country would love a leader like Putin to jail the annoying liberals and lead their crusade against progressives / immigrants / China / other scapegoat.
Can we please don't turn this into a thread about trump and USA
This is a largely developing issue all over Russia.
It's hard not to when the current state of Russia is entirely due to inaction of the majority of its population.
Doesn't this happen every election in Russia?
Sure, but every damn thread pretty much devolves into several pages of debate about Trump and congress, which we already had plenty of in this sub.
I only pointed it out because every goddamn election in Russia since I joined Facepunch twelve years ago, this has happened. Every single time, no exceptions. As a 'developing' issue it sounds more like the same old news, again and again. As long as Putin has held power, he has ruled Russia like a Tsar. And his supporters enable him by choosing not to care about due process, democracy, or civil liberties.
I'm pointing it out because right now the United States, a country that has prided itself on its freedom and that is the world's most powerful superpower at the minute, is in jeopardy of going the same way, because it's got a Putin wannabe (Who is, mercifully, incurably stupid) in power, and his supporters are exactly like Putin's.
