How insensitive.
I'd say I can't believe Trump said that, but I'd by lying. Par for the course for this degenerate.
Really? Because I could say: where were the freedom loving, armed civilians who could have stopped the Las Vegas shooting where 58 people were killed and hundreds were injured?
Except I’m going to withdraw saying that, because I don’t like using the deaths of many innocent civilians for political gain.
Ah yes, the "Piss off two NATO allies in a single speech" achievement.
He delivered it in a offensive way, as usual, but I don't think he's entirely wrong.
This statement is so incredibly stupid and provably wrong that I don't even know where to start.
It shouldn't been delivered at all. The whole entire point of him blabbing in statement is purely political. Its an insult to both France and its own people, he knows what he's doing. He's a piece of shit.
What happened in the Bataclan is nothing like what happened in Vegas. The Bataclan shooting was done at point blank range to the victims, the one in Vegas was done from 300 yards away and 100 yards in the air. Not really a situation where someone could fight back.
It does happen, it tends to go unreported because it's not exciting news or it doesn't fit in with whatever agenda that network is trying to push.
What Trump said is really fucking dumb but it's also dumb to discredit our ~American obsession~ by talking out of your rear-end about it.
Tell me what's so stupid about it.
You're incredibly ignorant if you don't think shootings have been stopped by people with concealed carry license. Just make one simple Google search and you can find dozens. The mainstream media isn't going to cover those situations like they do with shootings because it's not as profitable to report on. It's a likely possibility if someone had a firearm to defend themselves with, the deaths could have been minimized.
Obviously gun control didn't work because 130 people still were killed by bad guys with guns. Not even the United States has that many people die from a single mass shooting.
I understand that when you come from a country without the right to bear arms, it seems scary that you're letting everyday people have access to deadly weapons but bad people will still manage to get them anyways so why not give law abiding citizens the chance to defend themselves with something other than a kitchen knife or mace?
Not from a single one, no.
But what we lack in quality we make up for in quantity.
This is a uniquely American problem and it says a lot about the current state of America today.
Which points to why Trump's claims may seem quite offensive and inappropriate to a foreigner who doesn't live in a country where a mass shooting being stopped by someone else with a gun is not even interesting enough to report on the news.
So you're saying it's offensive to say that people should be able to protect themselves? Mass shootings and attacks are not a uniquely American thing. Just a few weeks ago you had someone kill 10 people with a van in Canada and a mosque mass shooting a year ago. Attacks are like these are starting to be more common everywhere. Stop acting like you're superior and cry when people demand to have the right to protect themselves because "we're too good to have these things happen to us".
I absolutely agree what Trump said is unprofessional and offensive. The idea that good people with guns is not as stupid and outlandish as you make it seem. You don't have to be a conservative or an American to see that guns save lives and that bad people are somehow getting access to weapons even with the strictest gun control.
I don't even support Trump, I'm not even a Republican. But it seems like anything he says you have to disagree with not because it is wrong but because he's Trump.
I'm actually pretty sure that it does get reported, it just doesn't happen often at all.
kind of like every situation where a shooter starts firing and everyone loses their fucking mind?
I'm almost never embarrassed to be an American, but when I saw the headline, I know some pro-gun guy was going to post this meme. Guns and Healthcare are truly our national shame. But hey, look on the bright side: our national shame used to be slavery, so we've come a long way!
I mean if there was concealed carry in France then realistically I think the Paris attacks would have been planned very differently. That could mean that whatever other plan they chose could have failed, it could also mean they may have killed just as many people (or more) in bombings instead of with guns.
I still don't understand why everyone is upset about good people with guns to protect themselves. Someone explain to me please. All I have got is "this is so stupid" and dumb ratings. Is pro self defence the new neo-confederate or something?
It happens as often as a mass shooting does, which is not bery often at all. "Unreported" is an exaggeration, "underreported" is a better word.
We don't need anymore legislation. What we need is better enforcement. Nearly all of these incidents had a background to them that could have been stopped if enforced better. I don't know if you know this but criminals don't follow laws and no matter what rules you put in to make yourself feel safer won't stop them from getting weapons, the proper enforcement will.
Why don't you respond with something that contributes to the conversation?
Tell me, what are a few armed civilians gonna do in case of a complete surprise attack made up of a bunch of terrorists armed with assault rifles, hand grenades and suicide vests?
There was 9 terrorists in crowds of thousands of people. If just one of the victims had a weapon they could have had the opportunity to protect themselves and others. If you were in this situation would you rather carry a gun or stand defenceless?
The system for determining who is or isn't a good person is shitty. It assumes you're a good person by default rather than putting you through a mental health check/safety course and licensing exam
Not knowing how to safely operate a gun is not responsible for mass shootings. It's already illegal to have a gun if you are a criminal and if you are deemed mentally incompetent by a court. Most of the shooters have a history with both criminal and mental history, yet it's not being enforced properly. If the police took action on the 30 different reports on Nikolas Cruz, the shooting could have been prevented. Same with the Sutherland Springs church shooting. It's not that we have lax gun laws, it's that they are not being enforced.
Then we have incidents where people just outright buy guns on the black market. Legislation is not going to stop that, enforcement is.
Ah yes, this is why mass shootings never happen in America.
Wait.
I see a very big problem with "throw guns at the issue" and "throw more guns at the issue" and "this wouldn't have happened if you threw more guns at the issue" and it has nothing to do with the fact that the quaking sphincter of a mouth that's uttering it happens to belong to the body we hu-mans recognize as Donald J. Trump.
The "good guy with a gun" theory is an American solution to an American problem, but it doesn't solve every problem.
I feel like guns in the hands of people would have stopped the restaurant shootings, but this is bad rationalization of a black swan.
If France had the gun culture of the US those specific terrorists would have likely chosen other means/locations to achieve their goals other than openly shooting people in the streets. I find it highly doubtful that it would have done much for the night club (maybe made this one more lethal tbh) or suicide bombings given the chaos.
So what's your amazing solution? Run in zig zags and hope you don't get shot?
A gun is a gun anywhere. Self defence is not an American idea, It's been around since man. You're acting like it's the wild west over here and people shooting each other in the street is just a Tuesday and our bacon cheese burger and gun loving culture is not for your highly sophisticated and proper society. I have a friend who lives in Toronto and got held up by a guy with a pistol. Too bad he didn't have the privilege like we do to defend himself.
We don't have the right to guns so we can go out and shoot people for no reason. It's to protect yourself against multiple things. If bad guys didn't have guns then this wouldn't be an issue. But they do and standing by and hoping you don't get shot doesn't work in reality.
Yea, and then some guy decides to conceal a gun to shoot their idol on stage.
Now the security got another problem!
