Good.
What other outcome could the be? This is cut and dry murder.
Good riddance to white trash.
“I hope in the years that you must spend in the jail you will one day realize the magnitude of your mistake and work towards your penance,” [the victim's wife] told Purinton. Pretty damn level-headed considering what happened to her family.
Because I called some asshole who shot the first foreigner he could find "white trash"? Because that's pretty fuckin' trashy behavior in my book.
Perhaps I should have used the more inclusive "trailer trash"? Would that be less offensive to you?
Whilst I see your point, I generally think it's acceptable to use those terms when somebody belongs to the race they're mocking.
Only white people can call white people "white trash"? If only there was a word that described such unfair inequality based on race
Dude, there's a time and a place to call someone white-trash, and killing someone because they're foreign is definitely one of those times. Like I'm sorry if you feel oppressed or whatever because people throw that word around like candy, but it's perfectly appropriate here.
"Became"? It's always been acceptable as far as I know. People I know use it all the time to describe a particular kind of person, and considering the fact that most of the people I know are white I can sure as shit say that we're not talking about ourselves, lol.
So this particular hick consists of the maggots that squirm about at the very bottom of the white-trash heap. Why are you getting so bent out of shape about it? Is "white-trash" some sort of title you wear with pride or something? Am I besmirching your good name?
It's the same way that black people often use pejoratives for their race to describe other black people.
It's because your post was easily read as racist dude this is not that hard
I've heard far more people who were white use the term "white-trash" to describe literal white-trash than anyone who wasn't white, but I guess I see your point?
I feel like trailer trash and white trash are too good for a racist murderer. I've known a lot of trailer trash in my time and they're all significantly better than this chuckle fuck. But don't pretend that you don't know what he means, of course you don't hear the term "black trash", because if you did it would get a hundred times the backlash that you're getting right now for using the term "white trash", plus there are already racist terms for black people that do the same job. If we want to get rid of casual racism, "white trash" needs to disappear along with the rest because it is a racist term regardless of whether or not the race it's mentioning is anywhere near as oppressed as others, and justifying it like that is the same shit I hear racists around here saying "now I don't mean all black people is niggers, ya got black people and then ya got niggers, y'know the kind that's in gangs and steal yo bike and whatnot".
I think that part of the issue is that even at its best, "white trash" is often used to make fun of poor people and is just generally seen as kind of an unpleasant remark. Might just be my personal experience, though. I'm curious as to what actually prompted the incident in the article. Was it really just cut and dry dude sees non-americans -> shoots them, or was there something that happened that actually triggered this? If it was the former, did the guy just never see non-american people before or what?
Wow, imagine reading an article about a piece of shit getting convicted for the senseless, racially motivated murder of a guy who did nothing then getting butthurt because someone called the white trash piece of shit "white trash" then making it all about yourself.
Tbh my problem with white trash isn't because it's racist, but because it's classist
Yeah, that's my experience with the term as well. I live in rural Missouri so you hear the term a lot, but it almost always refers to people who are only guilty of being poor and living in trailers. That's not to say it isn't also often used to refer to walking piles of racist, meth smoking trash but it's usually just poor people, but I always did think it was also pretty shitty to just bring their race into it for no reason at all.
White-trash is more about the lack of class than class itself.
most people use it to exclusively refer to poor people
Calling someone white trash doesn't have much to do with them being poor, it has to do with acting ignorant and rude, being gross, grungy, tweaked out, etc. There's plenty of white trash around me that has plenty more money than me and is still white trash where as I'm just some broke white dude.
Who seriously uses "white-trash" to describe poor people? That's stupid and not the correct usage for that term. It's literally in the term: "White-trash", as in "trashy people". You don't need to be poor to be trashy.
We've been over this: Telling someone "Get out of my country!" and then shooting not only him just because he's foreign, but his friend AND the first American to try to stop your stupid ass is incredibly trashy.
I think the problem you're having is that you're affixing your angst on something that's been used to describe a group of people because you're looking to be offended. White trash has been used to describe the average trailer park, uneducated, tweaker type person for decades. It just so happens that the fact is the majority of white trash happens to be white, as that's why the term describes people as such. It's nothing inherently about the fact that they're white, it's just purely circumstance that the term came to be white trash due.
There are plenty of people out there that would not hesitate for a moment before calling you white trash.
To be honest, I don't care what people call me - I am just saying that I wouldn't use the n-word to describe black people. It's the same way that when disabled people take the piss out of themselves, it is generally not seen as bad.
i never knew how often and how casually 'white trash' was used til i went to the states, it surprises me tbh. it sounds like a really heavy term for the way it's thrown around
For what it's worth, here in TN I only hear people say "white trash" when they're making an effort to distinguish someone from the usual black trash, or so they mean.
