finally we can have this

That is just the stupidest display of wealth i've ever fucking seen.
Cities and counties declaring themselves "sanctuary" from any kind of law overall degrades the rule of law in the country entirely.
I can't wait for "tax sanctuaries" and then the government doesn't get any revenue.
TBH Chicago and its surburbs should be its own state so the rural folk dont have to deal with this
County officials fear their state legislators won’t be able to stop the passage of the gun restrictions because they are outnumbered by lawmakers from in and around Chicago, where the vast majority of the more than 650 homicides last year involved guns.
I can see why they're doing this. They're afraid of the Democrats using inner-city crime to push AWB-style legislation on rural residents.
and now we culturally appropriate it
or maybe those rural folk should recognize the majority of the population of their state has to deal with incredible urban issues
I don't think it's unreasonable to say that they're two very, very different areas that might be better served by having two separated governing bodies that would better represent the hypothetical constituents of both. In theory it should already be possible, but any current legislation made with rural areas in mind is going to get shouted down or looked over in favor of something that targets the Chicago metro.
probably because state immigration sanctuary laws aren't breaking any law, they're telling the fed they can't coopt their state and local law enforcement into federal immigration enforcement, whereas if a state law prohibits something and a county refuses to enforce it, they're in violation of the law.
again I reitterate, sanctuary cities and states don't break any law, at least unless a state specifically forbids it, while this is actively ignoring a state law.
I'm not saying sanctuary cities are illegal, was more referencing the symbolic stance they take.
I like seeing someone sort of turn it on it's nose, albeit a little sideways. I wouldn't be surprised if non-compliance and a local departments lack of interest in using limited resources by following up on automatic bumpazines make gun laws in rural Illinois sort of similar to the way they're treated in places like Colorado- mostly ignored, for the most part. Still, if rural areas want better representation, I think doing stuff like this is a good way to get people talking about it, at least.

As someone who grew up in rural Illinois, I can confirm that Chicago dictates what happens to the state. Our roads, public schools, and infrastructure in general were horrible because we couldn't get funding because, according to the state, "Chicago needed it more."
So you're saying states should be able to co-opt county law enforcement to enforce gun laws, but the feds can't co-opt county law enforcement to enforce immigration law? Sorry, I've seem to have missed the difference.
well the states are paying for state police and grant them their law enforcement powers and are under the state's legal jurisdiction. its federalism 101
Yeah but they're talking about local law enforcement who will not cooperate with the state police to enforce Chicago's bans out in the countryside.
which is contempt of the law, sanctuary city/state policies are quite different legally
City police won't work with federal authorities to enforce specific law: OK.
County police won't work with state police to enforce specific law: NOT OK.
What's the difference though? What makes on ok and the other not ok?
All those C9's in the hands of Chicago gang bangers are finally safe from the Feds, God Bless you Illinois!
because states have direct authority over state police, christ its not that fucking hard. federal immigration enforcement is the pervue of ICE, whos agents are hired, trained, and tasked to directly enforce the law. Local (which is state btw) police are not paid to enforce federal immigration law specifically, they aren't enforcing anything actually, sanctuary policies are simply them not being allowed to be coopted by federal law enforcement in addition to their own duty to enforce under their jurisdiction as granted by the state they are in.
again for you bumblefucks, there is no federal law stating state officers MUST COMPLY WITH EVERY SINGLE WHIM from federal agents. they cooperate out of mutual respect most of the time.
state police refusing to enforce state law is completely different, that is contempt of the state, which is the body that grants them their authority directly.
Me and you are using different definitions for "local", I am using it to refer to the county. The county will not cooperate with the state police, the towns will not cooperate with the state police. It's very much like when Chicago police refuse to cooperate with ICE. Like ICE, the state police will have to enforce that law by themselves.
Yeah I don't know what he's smoking but where I'm from our local police force is the County Sheriff's Department. Their are State Police located throughout the State but they are not the "local" police force.
I can't wait to go on vacation to an Illinois hyper-favela gun market
I wish somewhere in my home state did this. I'm tired of the big cities controlling the entire state, no matter the size.
Wow you’re really blowing my mind with these well thought out arguments.
Literally all this means is that the state police will be enforcing this law. And even if they didn't, guess what? It'd be no different than buying a gun in a pro-gun place, because federal laws still apply and always have.
I just think it's nice that we finally have a sanctuary location for sanctuary citizens to arm themselves.
That's not what happens and I'm quite tired of people outside Chicago thinking they're getting a raw deal when they're generally getting more than they put in. Cook and Collar Counties subsidize most of downstate, with the exception of some counties in Bloomington-Normal's metro and a few others. Cook and Collar only get $0.80 per $1 in taxation, whereas much of downstate (40+ counties) is getting over $1 (but less than $2) per $1 in taxation, and many (30+ counties) are getting over $2 back per $1 in taxes paid (2013 figures).
but that doesn't fit my bias
What the fuck are you talking about
