In Windows 10 Build 17661 notepad properly displays linux newlines. After 20 years.
nice
Notepad is basically the Internet Explorer of text editors though, you replace it with something proper ASAP.
Supporting Linux newlines is great, though.
Too bad, will install Notepad++ anyway
That's not always an option - sometimes we need to unfuck files exported from our Android software and since it's not our server (so we don't install things) we have to copy it locally, edit in something proper (like vim), then copy it back. Though this won't even help us as we have a grand total of two clients running Server 2016, with most of 2012, a decent chunk on 2008 R2 and some on misc ones like 2011 Small Business or whatever (you ever had to connect to a server via a NAS that launches RDP sessions via an ActiveX control that only works in IE, and the SSL version is so old even IE complains that it isn't secure?).
None of them will ever get this update. Enterprise a shit.
Only a little late

They should replace it with visual studio code.
I'd prefer if we kept shitty bloated web apps out of the standard accessories as much as possible personally.
Meanwhile vscode takes quite some time to open files, and fails
Notepad on the other hand was updated to also increase load times, even from already using memory mapping
Vscode can't even open large files due to absurd memory problems (no thanks to electron)

Yes that's clearly opening it perfectly
Encrypted unreal engine 4 paks do look like that
I'm pretty sure it's all thanks to Electron. Not going to lie, the VS Code developers have made Electron run as fast as possible and you can see this if you compare it to Atom, but you can't change the fact that it's built on Electron, which means it will unlikely to ever be able to open large files
Yeah, there were improvements made quite a while ago so it could load somewhat larger files.
It's far from the best, and the thought of it just replacing notepad is absurd
I really wish MS would just buy Notepad++ and make it the default, especially since the Notepad++ team seems to have no interest in porting it to other platforms.
just include vim
Embrace, extend, and extinguish
