The NRA could do a lot trying to capture democrat gun owners at the moment and present themselves as representing them but all they seem to be doing is demonstrating how deep they're in the RNC's pockets and putting off even moderate Republicans.
Wow as if the group wasn't political enough.
ah, Oliver North. he was just poured into that uniform.
I want an apolitical "big gun organization" like the NRA without the conservative slant. Speaking as a conservative - there's no reason for guns to be a bipartisan issue. This is so tiring.
I wonder why they picked him, everyone under the age of 65 knows him as a criminal
My guess is if you're the kind of person that supports the NRA in its current state you probably won't care.
either the politics of the U.S. have solidified and become concrete and politicians have no reason to take political risk, or Politicians have become addicted to the very ideologies they're pushing and have become oblivious to how much more money they could make by appealing to both political audiences. Its profitable to be popular, why are these morons not understanding that.
if there's anyone who knows illegal weapons it'd be olly north! but seriously, this is cartoon villainy levels of crazy
"being known as a criminal" sounds like excellent qualifications for being the president of a GOP lobbying group.
I thought the GOP was in the NRA' pockets. Pretty sure the NRA are just in the pockets of gun manufacturers.
Doubtful. Driven by money, I would think gun manufacturers would recognise the danger of making the Democrats "the" anti-gun party. They want to be able to sell guns for a long time, having the Dems come in and ruin that because the NRA have done a shit job trying to sway Dem voters and politicians is foolish. Then again, they might be blind to the issue.
Nothing says "Patriotic" like a man who committed high treason and sold guns to the people who kept 52 Americans hostage for over a year
It's kinda the other way around, the NRA is deep in GOP pockets. A lot of GOP politicians straight up don't give a fuck about gun rights, and the ones that care the most just happen to be paid for by the NRA. NRA gets most of their money from deep-red working poor areas, which ironically makes it one of the few people-driven lobbyist groups.
God why. This guy is a fucking travesty upon the gun rights community, and stands for everything that almost everyone is against.
Seems like he's exactly what the NRA is looking for then.
No shit, the NRA is a fucking joke these days. Seriously people: Support the Gun Owners of America and Jews for the Preservation of Firearms Ownership. Both these groups actually give a fuck about gun rights, and were critical too the findings of Heller v. DC. They are currently working on laws regarding concealed carry reciprocity.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lFV1uT-ihDo hey, Ollie North was all about selling weapons to people, he's a perfect pick for the NRA
And despite the name, you don't have to be Jewish to be a member of the latter. They just believe that the Nazis used gun control to target Jews (which is true) and have kosher food at their events.
The only reason that you'd be "made" to vote republican would be if you held gun rights above all your other political views.
Once you lose something like that, it's not coming back, it's never coming back. A lot of people have the mentality that they can fight to gain ___ later but if they lose guns now, they're never getting them back.
I don’t know about you but looking back at the last 20 years, nothing about this country would lead me to believe they would stop at just taking away guns. It’s inevitable they would push through as much as they can get away with, and the shit they’re already getting away with is staggeringly huge. Civil asset forfeiture, parallel construction and mass surveillance eroding the 4th amendment into virtually nonexistence, indefinite suspension of Habeas Corpus via certain unaccountable alphabet soup agencies and Gitmo to name a few. Also it’s less about “guns are the only thing you care about” and more to do with not wanting law enforcement or ESPECIALLY the ATF to have free reign on going door to door ready to kill your entire family over victimless crimes just because your gun has “a shoulder thing that goes up”. The ATF has a long list of spectacularly fucking up and I’d really rather not see them assault my friends/family/neighbors like it’s hurricane Katrina gun confiscation V2.
Do you take issue with that? As has been stated, you never gain gun rights, only lose them. Aside from the sunset clause on the AWB, the only rights we've gained in the past 50 years is concealed carry. Other than that, we've only lost ground on that front. Its pretty reasonable to place your focus on the one right that will never return if you lose it.
Another thing to take issue with is why is it that gun rights has to be the price on all of those rights you just mentioned? That's no better an argument than the one that said guns caused poverty.
It's not mutually exclusive by nature, the Democrats made it that way when they decided to champion gun control via indefinite restrictions.
I don't take issue with it at all, I'm simply stating a fact; I have no idea why, but often times saying that rattles people's cages or at least leads to some good discussion. If that's what you truly care about, then there's nothing wrong about that at all, it's just what you care about.
Republicans would fuck over gun owners too if not for the fact that single issue voters always vote for them. They don't give a single fuck about gun rights. All they care about is that they keep getting votes and paychecks from lobbyists like the NRA. Honestly wouldn't surprise me if some democrats were getting checks from the NRA as well since people see democrats say anti-gun stuff then go out and buy a bazillion things like idiots which makes the gun manufacturers flush with cash who then give more money to the NRA to lobby politicians. I'm pro gun and I still vote democrat because all the other issues are very important. Obama didn't do anything to gun rights, and I have no idea what Hillary would have done. I voted for Bernie in the Primaries and Hillary in the election. I wanted Bernie to be president, but unfortunately that wasn't to be. Trump hasn't done shit for or against gun rights either, but he's also totally shit on our country when it comes to everything else. I knew that bitch was a scumbag way before he considered being a president. (remember how he wanted to turn Scotland into his own stupid golf course?) Republicans prove themselves time and time again to be scum, at least democrats do stuff to make life better. I don't want democrats to fuck over guns, but I also feel that they probably won't do much anyways. It's usually just talk. Also to cap off my rant thing with something relating a bit more to the news article, fuck the NRA.
Which Rights are at the top of the food chain depends who youre talking too. For me, gun rights are the foundation of our Constitution and Bill of Rights. Without the protections it grants, the other rights mean nothing. So for me, gun rights is at the top. I support everything else you've mentioned but if a candidate ran on the foundation of all that stuff, but was anti wA and 1A, I wouldnt vote for him. But god forbid an issue is important to me so I'm sure I'm the incarnation of Hitler to you now, being as I'm a single issue voter.
actual fucking war criminal
Obama was great for guns, sales went through the roof when he was in office!
