Didn't find anything using the forum's search function, and checked the HL subforum, so decided to post it here https://youtu.be/9m9gG9SxKgs
they already have the story
Honestly I find their attempts to recreate the feel of source movement and combat in another engine more interesting than the project itself. Not that I wouldn't love to see the Epstile 3 story play out in gameplay, but I think that's too ambitious a job for even Valve themselves to pull off at this point.
The gravity gun fling is extremely weak in the video
that looks fucking amazing I hope it gets far
God I hope that this doesn't get shut down.
God the HEV suit looks downright awful in those videos, reminds me of Revolution 60 with those textures.
As well, Laidlaw basically posted just an outline. Those don't really tend to survive to the end of a development unchanged. Ofc that's a bit of a conundrum since if they see a need to deviate from it they'll probably face quite a lot of backlash.
I'd rather have some new weapons instead of the magical grenade-launching MP7 once again
What I find particularly interesting is how far they've already gotten. I mean, most super ambitious projects like this never get past the concept art stage, these guys made a bunch of models and textures, animated them, made some style guide stuff for future level design - it's pretty impressive
I guess a decade of bitter waiting is a good motivator
those animations look really clunky tbh
They look really weak - no punch to the guns at all.
the pump animation for the spas 12 looks jittery too
The video said that they were supposed to be completely new music (while in the same tone and feel as HL2) but Illusion of Free Choice straight up lifts the beat from CP Violation. Unless its supposed to be a remix akin to how Tracking Device is a remix of HL1's ending theme.
I really don't have much hope with this to be honest. I feel like it either will get shut down or they will be overcome by the sheer vastness of the task they're trying to take on. I hope I'm wrong though.
I consider PB ending up like BM or HDTF unlikely given that they're "finishing" the main storyline instead of remastering or supplementing it through another story. Valve may want to reserve the storytelling for themselves, if and when they ever decide to do anything with it. They might not even want to, but it'd be smart from a business perspective for Valve to keep the storytelling to themselves just in case.
This is actually pretty cool. I mean, everything still feels WIP (which is fine, they probably just started the project not long ago), but I'm quite satisfied that they are not using the outdated Source Engine, finally. I don't think this will go too far, but I hope I'm wrong.
tbf is extremely early in the development process. The fact they got a decent foundation of the gameplay mechanics and the visual look of a regular half life game is promising at best.
The Revolver wants a word.
I’m the lead texture artist on the Project so if anyone has question feel free to ask and I’ll try to answer. Pretty neat that it seems FPs general consensus is positive. FP is one community that I feel properly understands the IP more than others.
I don't undestand why there's so many houndeye concepts. It doesn't really have anything to do with the setting of borealis, even if the plan is to include Xen as a more dominant setting it'd be more powerful to invent species that we haven't seen before. It still looks like something to keep working towards, but i really don't see them as a species existing within cold conditions.
Honestly it looks really accurate. You'd be shocked how much a bit of lighting and sound can make something seem far more impactful than it is
It's good to see attempts being made.
wow this looks like it might actually go somewhere
Honestly I feel like the worst outcome would be for it to finish, but wind up being very mediocre. Although most likely is that it just breaks apart. But hey, we'll see, at the very least we'll probably get some cool UE4 assets.
I can tell you for certain it will not end up like Hunt down the Freeman. You got a project filled with people wanting to create something out of pure passion While the other was a project held together by spit and worn out ductape. And headed by a person who never before in their life made a video game.

They should gotten my brother to help write the soundtrack. He's actually working on competitor mod which is being made in source instead of unreal. I'm pretty sure that mod is called Boreal Alyph. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E7xBsftumRw
They should get this guy on board who made some Half-Life inspired songs: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O6Q_qPcYWvA He made a couple others as well: Link 1 | Link 2
