https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DiBDd3w7TzQ Some highlights They admit they can never meet their own deadlines Shipping updates happens democratically, a majority of a team's members have to want to ship the update They don't want alt doing anything, while alt is used in TF2 (doesn't do anything useful though)
So a team leader at Valve is basically powerless to actually get things moving and released. Lol, Valve's flat management structure never ceases to be complete shit.
They're still doing the flat management structure? Why do huge companies like valve and google love bleeding money like this so much?
It's rumored that a select few people at Valve control hiring and firing, and they'll fire employees who want to change the flat structure
Yeah, apparently it's done through voting. Get enough people to vote you out of the company and it will happen. No matter how good of an employee you are.
Wow, it's amazing we're getting anything out of Valve, it's crazy there. Imagine you're a fine employee and bam you're fired because you sat in a cabal bosse's seat in the cafeteria
That explains why all the writers left, the other employees didn't even know what they were doing there.
Marc Laidlaw all but said he left because he was tired of just writing Dota 2 item flavor text
Imagined getting votekicked out of your job
I'm not blaming Gabe entirely. It's hard to keep track of 300+ people. But if genuinely good and hard working people have to leave the company because some older dudes don't like them, then the system needs to be changed. I also don't know if the system is that simple exactly. I just read about it somewhere.
So essentially Valve runs at the same efficency as an anarcho-syndicalist commune.
I think their management structure has potential, it just needs rules and be more representative and discourage cabals and whips from forming.
I don't even get what the hell Gabe hasn't retired already. Apparently all he does is sit in his office and play Dota 2 bot matches. I mean, I'm sure he's doing more than that, but nevertheless it seems like he really isn't involved much in the direction of the company anymore. Remember when he shut the game side of the company down so all the developers could brainstorm new, innovative gameplay ideas? And how that event eventually lead to Portal 2? Yeah, those days are long since past.
More as anarcho-capitalistic hypocritical dictatorship
weird way to spell "printing"
But they're not making anything. It's counter-productive.
They don't need to make a product to make bank anymore though. They're literally a massively profitable organization, I doubt they really care they aren't producing anything. I think it sucks, most of us think it sucks, but they're not being counter productive at all, honestly. They're just disappointing.
I'm so fucking tired of constantly reminding people of what Valve is doing VR Shit Steam Artifact A new game Another new game CS:GO Dota 2 TF2 Them not doing what you are personally interested in doesn't mean they're not doing anything.
Greed. Valve is a money printer. Anyone working there is guaranteed a cushy existence for the foreseeable future. If this is true, then Valve has been gutted. The ambitious people who made the games we love have left, and they've been replaced by people who have no desire to work because the can just dick around all day and still get a fat paycheck at the end. I imagine they must be gripped with fear that one day they'll be back to normal management where they're expected to work fast and hard.
No God's, no Kings, only hats.
vr shit breaking steam every 3 weeks dota card game a new game ""apparently"" another new game ""apparently"" updating cs:go once every 3 months dota 2 updating tf2 once every 5 months
Not apparently. Gabe confirmed that after Artifact more games are coming.
One thing comes to to mind when hearing about those "new" upcoming games. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BmBfySg2pCQ
It is counter productive because they can be using a more effective working system and making more money. Doesn't matter what's already making them money in the background. It wouldn't change if they got their shit together or not.
They wouldn’t really make more money producing or making games than they do owning a publishing front. The percentage of income increase would be small while expenditure high. I don’t like that they aren’t, but it’s not counter productive at all dude.
Gabe said they want to make games again, must be some internal passion again. I think lazy devs do get fired
Gabe can say whatever he wants, but if nobody is willing to commit to developing and finishing a new game then those games are doomed to become vaporware like EP3/HL3 did. Hard work won't show if it all ends up on the cutting room floor.
Considering how much cash Valve already makes, I think if a project gets enough internal attention to start in earnest, I think it'll be done sooner or later. Though Valve has been working on new games to this very day and none have come out, we just know about them from leaks or concept art from former employees.
Come back to your job wearing a disguise and they will never know .
cant wait for another fucking card game
