When I look for news, I like to look for things I don't care about, events that are outside of my limited perspective.
This is pretty much a no for me.
I'm getting MGS2 flashbacks, even if it is a bit different.
Who knew new news was news?
Eh, can't be worse than what we already have. But I do agree, I'm not comfortable with such a huge powerful company having a news outlet.
Yeah I think the absolute last thing we need is Google's AI overmind controlling what news we see.
Thank you Google for depriving us further of our ability to filter information and emit a judgment of value on news sources, all in the name of comfort. Now I can be assured that the news that I want to read are always, completely trustworthy from my standpoint, and in perfect accordance with my own worldview!
I find it a priority to get my news without any bias whatsoever so I exclusively use Wikipedia's random page hyperlink every morning to be up to date with both liberal and conservative news stories.
That way there is also no bias between current events, fictional events, events that happened decades ago, events that are theorized to happen one day and Jeff Fabry the paralympic archer who won a gold medal in the 2012 Summer Paralympics.
I prefer that over being spoon fed propaganda by some frog-homosexualizing gluten free chemtrail robot any day of the week.
I don't think this can fill my SH addiction
also royzo still posts here wtf
google collects news data, does google pay for those articles or do they pay google?
yes hi
google's actually done a pretty good job of picking and choosing the sources that lean towards the unbiased fact based on topics. it stays away from fox news in politics, but isn't afraid to use it when it comes to things like the hawaii volcano erupting, it pulls in tweets, this is actually not a bad setup
Yeah, while this may cause some isolation in topics, I'm not going to say it'll cause isolation in opinion till I've had some hands on. They mention giving multiple opinion pieces and sources for more info on stories as well, and using the google app which gives you topic news stories I always tend to get one or two opinion pieces that go against my view on it.
That said, I doubt that any company wanting to make money will ever work to make an app that sends you stories against your view, most people are self-isolating by nature, and to commit man-hours to something that'll go against that won't make business sense.
When google's not busy ejaculating advertisements their news is pretty unbiased, though they do allow you to dismiss stuff and make an information bubble if you really want to.
I never really left. I just went to buy some cigarettes.
See Timmy, when a man loves a woman he sometimes needs to go buy cigarettes. This can take years. Some men never make it back at all. The point is that when he does come back, it means he really loves you and your mom and all that matters is that he's here now and he will never ever leave you again for as long as he feels like it.
Now go to bed Timmy. Maybe turn the radio on, your mom and I have some catching up to do.
Really awesome stuff tbh
Call me alarmist, but I think there's a danger to only being fed news articles "you might be interested in". Already people don't go out of their way to read things they disagree with, this sounds like it will reinforce the bubble that people put themselves in.
Like if someone clicks on an article about refugee crime, the ai picks up that you're interested in that topic and feeds more similar articles to you leading you to believe that it happens way more frequently than it does. Same is true for articles that you never click on, you'll never hear about. It will just reinforce whatever bias you have.
I don't really have a solution to this, because who wants a newsbot that occasionally sends you articles that challenge your worldview.
The new tab in Edge is where I get my normals news.
Since I use it on my tablet for uni.
It's full off straight bullshit and clickbait, but it's full of shit I wouldn't care to find out about
google news is already a propaganda machine, once a month it plugs me a push notification about some dumbass article about american politics. I DON'T CARE FFS
