Paid Sprays in DOTA 2 - International 8 Battle Pass

Once you purchase the battlepass, sprays are one of the rewards you can unlock among many other things. Of course you can spend money on the battlepass for some quick levels, but unless you're dishing out $70 exclusively for the sprays (which no one would do) they are not actually paid sprays.
If you take a look at the Dota 2 subreddit, people have been pissing their pants for the ability to throw money at Valve. It's insane.
I would hardly call these "paid sprays", they're just one part of the rewards you get by leveling the Battle Pass. You can't purchase the sprays directly from steam market or steam store.
What are they, then? They're sprays, and you pay for them.
You are paying for a pass that grants a whole lot more than just sprays. Not paying just for sprays.
I'd assume most people pay for the battle pass for the myriad of little goodies it offers, most importantly treasures that contain item sets or immortal items for heroes, those are by far the biggest draw. Sprays are more of a "buy five, get one free" sort of thing; you don't pay for them specifically, but you're glad that they're a part of the bundle.
A "whole lot more". Considering the price for leveling up is $9.99 for 24 levels, these sprays are spread really fucking thin:

Especially as they run out after TI or whatever.
Sure, there are many other rewards, but the fact that you need to spend hundreds and hundreds of dollars to get anywhere near them all is just ridiculous. If you've paid them 100 bucks you've only gotten like half the taunts. If you want all the immortals you'll be spending literally thousands of dollars. It's kinda insane.
I would drop 2 bucks for the mutation gamemode & the new 'role' match making thing, but jesus christ the rest of the BP stuff is always a massive steamy load what with the fake gambling and the unending streams of tasks designed to turn dota into a second job.
Are you seriously expecting to get EVERYTHING with a $10 battle pass? I'd be happy to spend the money just to play the new modes and enjoy additional features, cosmetics are bonuses, not to mention 25% proceedings go to the prize pool which is an additional incentive. Only if you are looking to go full collector-mode will it get ridiculously expensive, otherwise don't treat the cosmetics as independent items, they are for those who enjoy a giant grind and money furnace for prestige, and to rocket the prize pool.
Did I say that I did?
My expectations are set by the fact that you can get a full fat, AAA game for $60 new. Battle passes provide a few game modes, some sound packs, skins and other small stuff - that is to say, comparatively very little. Now obviously Dota is FTP, so Valve needs to make some money off the whales to make up for freeloaders like me, personally I don't think they should provide an avenue for people to gamble away hundreds of dollars to get a skin. If people are spending a lot of money simply to make the prize pool bigger, maybe you should let a larger share of the money go towards that. The fact that Valve lets the community basically entirely fund the prize pool, while also skimming 75% off the top for Valve's own prestige tournament event, is honestly sort of gross. Maybe lower the margin that goes to Valve a little bit?
i stopped buying the compendium when it went from "have all this free shit added ontop" to "work for all this limited time garbage ontop".
Well, good for you. But what's bad about getting more content for that money?
I remember back in ti2 and 3 i paid 60 bucks and got the entire package, which was actually good because it was like 20 skins and a bunch of voicepacks/couriers/huds/envirment skins. Then later i put down 20$ and then realized it capped at 2k fuckkng dollars if you wanted to turn the water red for a session, but only during TI.
almostall these expensive as fuck and stupid as hell rewards are only during TI.
--okay, admittedly, the full package gets pricier and so every year, so is the price pool. Soon it would surpass Japan in terms of whaling, and that is ethically unsound.
I still think the amount of content for admission is pretty good.
One guy might be really into paid sprays, thinks they're the future of monitization. And he moved from the CSGO team to the Dota 2 team. But since updates happen democratically at Valve it means over half
of both teams thinks paid sprays are a good idea.
I miss the old days of spending 2 hours making an animated spray of curly brace deep throating a candy cane to distract 12 year olds on the server. That or changing the LoD on a spray to look like a playboy bunny from a distance and turning it to gay or disgusting shit once you got right in front.
Cant expose teens to gotse/tubgirl/anipoon anymore, long gone is the golden era of CSS/HL2DM/TF2.
Can still use sprays in TF2 community servers. But maybe not for long as that's the last main mp Valve game without paid sprays, ugh
i miss the old days of converting goatse to a bmp
...I mean, that is exactly why they're getting rid of it. Why do you think Blizzard and Valve and other companies have gone with pre-set sprays now? Like it or not, they don't want their games to be the wild west or anything like that anymore.
I mean hell, there's a reason why Battle.net, and the PSN only have you use pre-set avatars as well.
From the other side of things, you've also got the fact that I think a lot of the exploits that still show up come from people exploiting the spray-upload thing to do malicious things as well?
Its boring, i get why they removed custom sprays, but releasing official ones for money or what have you is money grubbing.
