Two free new apps — the Steam Link app and the Steam Video app — are preparing for launch in the coming weeks, both designed to extend Steam’s suite of services and
accessibility.
The Steam Link app, slated to launch the week of May 21st, allows gamers to experience their Steam library of games on their Android (phone, tablet, TV) and iOS-based (iPhone, iPad,
Apple TV) devices while connected via 5Ghz network or wired Ethernet to a host system (Mac or PC), with Android access initially offered in beta. The Steam Link App will feature
support for the Steam Controller, MFI controllers, and more across both platforms.
Later this summer, the Steam Video app is targeted for release, allowing users to enjoy the thousands of movies and shows available on Steam directly via their Android and iOS
devices over Wi-Fi or LTE. In direct response to customer feedback, it will offer the ability to enjoy content in offline and streaming modes.
I figured they just had a new hardware revision coming since they were practically giving the Links for free.
I paid 1.10€ for mine, that's probably less than what the SoC + RAM cost.
Doubt they'll flesh it out, but steam input on a phone with the steam controller would be WILD
Now you have a near mouse equal for your phone, any shooter will basically be e z as pie now.
They probably just had warehouses full of them that they were trying to get rid of to be honest. Getting the link into the hands of the users most interested but never interested enough to pay full price to bring them into the TV play ecosystem so they'll buy new games.
Wait is the Steam Controller Bluetooth?? If not, how the hell do they plan to get it connected to the iPhone? I can understand Android with an OTG cable to connect the dongle, but the iPhone is stumping me.

Cool, can't wait to try this out in five months
Steam Controller uses a proprietary protocol, why only the special SC dongle works I suppose
That's what I thought, some 2.4ghz setup. Hence the dongle. So how do you get it working on an iPhone?
There needs to be a Chrome extension for those conversion.
Please let the app support the Dualshock 4 out of the box, it's the only controller I have and I really don't want to root my phone just so I can run Sixaxis to fix the bindings
Steam Input supports Xbox 360/One, PS4, and Switch Pro controllers out of the box natively.
The Steam Controller is BLE, just a bit non-standard.
They're releasing a firmware update so it'll work with phones. The wireless chip is completely capable of regular BLE.
As a note too, its support for ds4 is insanely good. The pad in the center is infinitely useful for menu options.
A Discord group I'm apart of about the Steam controller alleges "A coming update will enable the Steam Controller's Bluetooth chip, currently using a custom protocol to provide a low latency connection, to connect to select devices via normal BT BLE interfaces. Currently no word on a phone strap or other mount."
Cool but the current steam mobile app is still a steaming hot pile of garbage.
Wait you can use the touch pad for mouse input on PC?
It's a bit iffy for mouse input, little short height wise, but you can
it has both split and unified mode that is conjoined, so you can have the left side left click, right side right click, and the whole pad move the mouse
I use it for touch menu's, and radial menu's, so basically in Witcher 3 for example the left side is for menu's, right side is for spells. When I select a spell, the color of the light bar changes accordingly.
Dope, hope they take initiative to implement casting support
