The breaches are related to sections 5.1.1 and 5.1.2 of the company’s App Store Guidelines, which say that apps must not transmit “user location data to third parties without explicit consent from the user [or] for unapproved purposes.” Developers that have violated the company’s guidelines have received notices from Apple, informing them that their apps are not in compliance “upon re-evaluation.” 9to5Mac notes that the apps affected haven’t provided enough clear information to users about what happens to their data after it’s collected.
Say what you want about their products, but I think Apple's stance on personal privacy is pretty refreshing, especially in today's climate.
Pretty much the reason that I have an iPhone.
I don't fully buy into them treating their customers well based on how otherwise locked down their shit is, but credit should be given where it's due.
Apple makes their money by keeping customers in their ecosystem and selling them Apple products.
It's a hard issue. On the one hand, yeah it sucks that Apple is so locked down. On the other hand, when they're dependent on making their income through you using their products, they don't have that much of a choice.
Google makes money by selling your data. Apple makes their money by selling you their products.
There's no need to be so heavy-handed with it, as long as Apple delivers a good and cohesive ecosystem, the majority of people will stick to it just for the sake of convenience.
Especially if the products themselves keep being of a high quality.
It's the walled garden, it's what Steve wanted. He saw that much of the ecosystem when he made OS X and iOS in the first place. Say what you will about current designs/recent stagnation but Apple will always keep that ecosystem. Kinda ironic considering the Apple 1 was built in a garage by hobbyists.
apple really doesnt have a reason to collect info outside of improving products and they also realized there is a market for people who want to keep their privacy.
its one of their big selling points besides design/OS/etc.
I read this wrong, I thought it meant
If they do not share your data, they're removed
Weren't they the ones that started this to begin with? Collecting and selling data?
Makes me wonder what would Steve say if he was alive today and witnessed the recent debacles
Like Google, Facebook, Amazon, and Microsoft, they still collect information about you and use it for advertising purposes, but there is no PII in your advertising information and you can still call Apple and have them delete all of their data on you.
