Are there any decent uses for this? I've so far used spotlights on it, and auto-turrets, but the former have their light blocked out and the latter decay (Evidently, not attached to a foundation which is attached to a cupboard? WTF? That's super lame, auto-turrets shouldn't decay if they're in a cupboard radius), but getting up to it is a pain. Any thoughts?

I'm confused...Are you talking about repairing the decaying auto turrets? That's a bit impossible, considering if you log off, a few hours later the turret will be gone. Nobody is going to log in every few hours to whack a turret with high quality metal to keep it up. I used to have a turret set on the inside of my high walls, watching my bases, but then I realized I can't DO that, because it'll decay! But I can't place an extra TC, because its within my original TC's build radius! So I have to build a really awkward, fountation-pathway to the end to place my turret, but that's just a right pain in the ass.
Be cool if stone gates had their own, unique latter.... or some other way of getting up to the walkway. The potential uses for the walkway could open up many new dynamics to base defense and more...

Where are you getting "An hour" from? I'm genuinely concerned about your mental health, your posts are shockingly uninformed and show serious signs of dementia. This isn't a temporary set-up, on this thread I'm talking about placing auto-turrets, spotlights, e.t.c on-top of the High Stone Gate (and potentially other places) for extended, a la permanent, protection. If you log off and sleep for eight hours (Which you will!), that auto-turret will be gone in the morning. It happened to me a few times after the new Cupboard updates, until I caught on.
I'd make a joke about American education, but, I fear it'd be in poor taste...
you can also placce barricades on top of that walkway and you can actually place shotgun traps all over the gate (and the walls too), but I havent tested their decay or "ownership" hostility (i.e. since its not "attached" to a TC - will the shotgun trap shoot you as well)?
And yes - autoturrets used in a raid (in an offensive way) is for an hour or so (while the raid happens), and they depends on the decay of the foundation (usually triangle, and stone, i.e = 5hr decay), which is completely irrelevant here - as this is supposed to be a permanent set up, with potentially a day or so (24+ hrs) of not logging in.
have you heard of draining a turret? it takes the bullets away and then they can make around 5 spears and break it. place it inside your base and you wont have a problem

Im saying maybe your turret is gone not because of decay, but people destroying it. if its on a gate its easily accessible.

Yes, it should. Also, repair it everytime you logon, but it could also get destroyed by someone else.

Auto turret decay time is 12 hours and...
Also people can hit the turret multiple times making it break. NOT NECESSARILY DECAY.
