I swear the republican party is just entirely made of putrid cunts who have no empathy at all.
To the republican presidential candidate in 2008 no less
It's because they threw out everyone who had a soul. John Mccain is the last of his kind, trust me - there's no longer room in the Republican party for anyone with a smidgen of a conscience.
Didn't McCain give over the Steele Dossier? I hope that proves to be a massive FUCK YOU to Trump and these vile cunts ultimately before he dies.
Its too bad he won't be around long enough to mock them when they're behind bars.
i'm still not sure when we went to loving mccain as "the last republican with a conscience" when he quite happily continued to vote along party lines for everything except that one health care bill
The conscience of a conservative involves limiting empathy exclusively to yourself and your immediate family - sometimes even less than that. If you can put yourself in the position of someone who is fundamentally different from you, and you can feel for their struggles and identify with their shared humanity, you've disqualified yourself from being a Republican. Every mistake you make is justified, or should be forgiven and forgotten - but the mistakes other people make are their own fault, and they need to take responsibility for their failures, and we shouldn't be supporting them. Being gay is a dire sin, and LGBT rights should never be accepted, and if we do we'll destroy the sanctity of marriage - except for my son, he's gay, so I guess LGBT rights are OK. Abortion is literally murder, and it's morally reprehensible no matter what - except for my mistress, it's definitely OK if I pressure her to have one. We should kick out all the illegal immigrants, they're just mooching off our economy and stealing our jobs - except for my husband, he's not like all the other immigrants. Trans people will sexually assault our children in public bathrooms, we need to stop people from committing sex crimes - except for me, sometimes men just gotta be men, right? We need to protect the children from sexual predators, we should castrate pedophiles - except for our politicians, my mom would be thrilled if a judge hit on me when I was 14! Like, what the fuck is wrong with these people? They're fundamentally incapable of putting themselves into other people's shoes. Every time they succeed, they alone are responsible. Every time they make a mistake, well, mistakes happen, it doesn't say anything about their character. But if someone else makes a mistake, they're a failure, they deserve no respect, they should be held responsible for their failures. My teenager gets pregnant? It's God's plan, life takes us all on different paths, nobody should judge. Literally any black teenager gets pregnant? Wow, they need to fix their culture, they're so irresponsible, they should learn to abstain from sex, trashy slut. It's the same exact logic that racists use - all black people are horrible, except my friend Michael, sure he's black, but he's "one of the good ones." Conservatives at large are schoolyard bullies who throw out punches left and right, and then freak the fuck out and have their mom call the principal whenever someone punches back. It's this pervasive sense of absolute selfishness in every section of their life. They fundamentally don't understand that other people are just as complex, caring, intelligent, and nuanced as they are, regardless of whether they look, speak, or act differently.
what really gets me is where they actually start being proud of their utter lack of empathy and disdain for anyone worse off than them, like it's somehow a core american value to say "fuck you i got mine" i dunno, maybe that's just some of the entrenched reactionary bloody-mindedness that sees trump voters smug tuggin' at the thought of gay people or immigrants being scared when trump got elected -- i certainly hope so -- but it sure seems pretty pervasive and it's definitely enshrined in GOP policymaking (even more so now that they've become the party of trump)
