“I agreed to receive a copy of what is now referred to as ‘the dossier,’ ” the Arizona Republican wrote. “I reviewed its contents. The allegations were disturbing, but I had no idea which if any were true. I could not independently verify any of it, and so I did what any American who cares about our nation’s security should have done.” ... “I said I didn’t know what to make of it, and I trusted the FBI would examine it carefully and investigate its claims. With that, I thanked the director and left. The entire meeting had probably not lasted longer than ten minutes. I did what duty demanded I do,” Mr. McCain wrote, according to the Daily Beast, which received advance copies of the book, due out May 22. Pay attention, House Republicans. This is what an actual patriot looks like, unlike you spineless twats.
With his days numbered he fears no retribution.
If only he'd grow a spine when it comes to being concerned about Trump's actions but then voting in line with the rest of the GOP when it comes time to actually take action.
McCain is the one that handed that over to the FBI? Damn, I'm impressed.
isn't this the one that accused Trump hired hookers to piss on him
Yes
probably explains why he had to tow the line, to avoid suspicion
Well, he's a Republican - it's his job, but he did vote against the disastrous Obamacare repeal.
But still voted on the tax cuts, which repealed the individual mandate.
This is nothing more then a powerplay - go out and look like a hero now that the pan is hot. Don't fall for it.
Honestly, I'm not a fan of McCain's political positions, but it's fair to say without a doubt that he's principled. He's a conservative - it should be obvious that he'll vote for legislation that aligns with his political views. The Trump tax cuts align with the small-government conservative political mindset, even though they're undeniably shit. The difference between McCain and other Republicans isn't that he's rebelling by voting against the party line. If he was, the accusations that he's a RINO would be accurate. They aren't. He still votes for Republican legislation, generally. There are some notable exceptions, like standing up against the ACA rollback - but that's already some pretty fucking conservative legislation. Literally based off of Romney's state healthcare plan. Conservatives should've been celebrating the ACA, and the only reason they didn't is because of McConnell and the right-wing propaganda machine's efforts to paint anything that Obama touched as evil. McCain is not a democrat. We shouldn't expect him to vote like one. The difference between him and other Republicans is that he's principled in his views, and he prioritizes the interests of his country at large, instead of falling back on the filthy backdoor politicking of almost every single other GOP politician. I think his political views are flat-out wrong, and I think that he's thrown his support behind way too much bad-faith legislation. But he's no McConnell, he's no Ryan, he's no Trump. He's not a bad-faith politician. The fact that reporting potentially criminal evidence to law enforcement is considered "betraying the party" and "being a RINO" says way more about the modern GOP than it does about McCain.
I mean, the man is gonna die really soon. I don't think he cares much about being seen like a hero.
Would you rather have your legacy be just another dime a dozen republican or  that one ho helped impeach a very unpopular president?
i hope that someday you might see the world through a less cynical lense. though it is important to stay vigilant, we have to allow ourselves to believe that people can still do things because they are right and not as some scheme.
Basically America would be in a much better place if the whole GOP was like John McCain. He’s much closer to what the Democrats’ opponents should look like
I think in his place I'd prefer to be seen as the one not dead. Cause once you go out nothing else before or after ever matters. So who cares if you're a hero, villain, or whatever. You're a corpse and it won't make a bit of difference. Your reality is gone.
what's that? trump hired a bunch of hookers? for watersports? on Obama's bed? while he was married? AND PUTIN WATCHED? AND THERE'S A VIDEO OF IT?
Well, you know what they say - "even an inhuman shit-eating ghoul with one foot on the express train straight to a fiery hell whose presence on this earth is succeeded by his braindead pig-child is right twice a day". That's the popular aphorism, right?
He is a neo-con stooge. The problem with you guys on FP is you want to paint people, especially politicians black or white. An individual can be many things simultaneously. He has opted for actions that are both good and bad at many points in his career. The sum of the man is up to you to decide.
the problem with the entire facepunch community is that they generalize too much
