This could be anything, please keep it serious! I want to know your top bugbears (we all know what the top one will be!) so I can get a better idea of what needs to be done and how soon.
User titles. More things to use coins on. Some way to display our profiles, like oldpunch had.
Popular threads. This is really important to me as it was the best way to find important threads outside of my usual browsing spots. Evertyhing else is just QOL for me. The alert system should more readable and easy to get info from refugee camp back please Cheaper avatar sizes Show avatars on profile pages.
A worthwhile editor (Aka: Not a shitty WYSIWYG one.) A dedicated quote page so we don't have to quote a post then scroll back to it to finish reading the thread (or at least move the reply box when you quote instead of jumping you to the bottom of the damned page) Ability to report posts Ability to actually edit quotes Filters for the subforums
Popular threads Quoting images - atleast an option to open the image in the quote instead of having to navigate away to the post to see it. That's all I really miss from the old forums.
Full access to the API Options regarding how subforums are displayed, both on the main page and the thread view page (Such as being able to hide certain subs, change the order in which subs appear, etc) Viewer count on threads
Clicking on a thread title on the front page should direct you to the first unread post instead of the first post every time.
Fix mobile images in quotes View counts for individual threads What Slayer said, clicking on a thread you've read should take you to the first unread post. refugee camp would be fun
Make it work on mobile is the only thing that really comes to mind for me.
news bot a solution for the Games Discussion mess ratings and emote coin vote/shop embed fix
Option to filter subsection threads from appearing in main sections. Mobile fix A list of subscribed threads, rather than just getting notifications when they get posted in.
A way to disable subforums showing up in the general section or apply filters that can achieve the same A report function Only having the text of a thread/section be a link and not the whitespace around it A toggle for the WYSIWYG editor to do minor tweaking Refugee Camp, even if it's only visible to mods
The Ticker Read Threads Old Avatar Size (I know we aren't getting this one back, but I can dream) A less cluttered way of handling subforums Maybe bring back the news bot section
Easier to edit quotes (like oldpunch) the current mixture of uneditable mega blocks and > things is sorta lame and inconsistent. Easier way to rename links. A clear box button - facepunch is current unusable on my phone. I can't reply to a buncha threads because I have undeletable quote boxes in them. The only way for me to clear this is to wipe the local storage memory which is lameoid commando prime MK III Alpha. More control over thumbnailing/general image sizes. It's a really great forum but those thing's are weaksauce As a final cool option it'd be nice to have a few more css classes for styling stuff. Like class tags on the user names (corresponding to user types) so I can make blue members into brown members and make gold members have sparkly animated names. As an even finaler final option It'd be nice to have some sorta option to not load images, so once you've toggled the option images show up as empty boxes till they're clicked. A few times I've accidentally visited various haunts whilst on my mobile on the bus home only to have my data pillaged by several large pictures of old fashioned trains in aux pics.
Actual subforums. right now, its just a shitty, cluttered pseudo-tag system. kill it, and instead have proper subforums like in oldpunch, with broader topics. you can only squeeze out so much discussion out of Far Cry, anyways. Look at Something Awful's subforums, where they have one for MMOs and such. Better formatting. I want to be able to put two images next to each other on the same line. I also want to be able to turn them into links, so that I can put nice graphical buttons to my various profiles on my FP profile. Allow OPs and profiles to have a limited selection of fonts and colors to add to text to make OPs shinier aswell. Refugee Camp on the forums. It doesnt even have to be visible to anyone besides mods and banned users. Right now you limit it to the Discord. it's lame. it encourages peanut gallery behaviour. Let's not go that route. Clearer and enforced rules. The mod team took a few hits with the amount. That's okay. But I feel there isn't actually much done in terms of hard enforcement of the rules listed currently. It's still operating on the bare minimum. Some of it is a bit vague, aswell. Maybe provide examples in there? Decreased avatar size prices. It's a pain. I know avatars are more vanity than anything, especially with backgrounds being hotter than that, but some users felt shafted as they went from 80x160 to 64x64 again. and I understand that. So make the grind a bit less painful. It's unimportant anyways, which is an argument both for and against.
Stop Twitch clips from autoplaying (unless that has already been fixed?)
Unfucked mobile view PMs and profile messages That "better frontpage" from the roadmap More random cosmetic bullshit to spend coins on? idk
Sticky threads having less exposure than normal threads due to it disappearing from parent forum. 10/10 subforum system
Ticker Fixed quotes Popular Threads More uses for coins More refined and concrete rules regarding post quality/what are acceptable posts and threads
Private messages Mark unread button Put this thing at the bottom as well as the top https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/132416/9b2b0293-d8a6-48e7-81f3-9991b6ad21c6/FAUCPECNH.png 4.Report button 5.A post editor that allows for more: thumbnailing images when desired, posting on the same line or without a big whitespace buffer. Just bring the editor up to par with normal forums in general.
That reminds me, while it's not a huge deal there should be a subscribe button at the bottom as well. It's not exactly difficult to hit the home button and click it but I'm more often than not going to completely read a thread before deciding whether I want to subscribe to it or not.
A page where you can view all your subscribed threads Better subforums. Either separate them from the parent forum or provide a way to filter out the subforums from showing up in the parent. PMs Better quoting of images and spoiler text Improvements to the editor
1. Ability to edit quotes (this may be related to mobile browsing, idk I hardly ever post from a PC) 2. Ability to delete quotes from the reply box while mobile browsing. At this point I'd be happy with a simple button to just completely wipe the reply, which I feel may be a quick fix until the editor is improved/fixed properly 3. Fix mobile browsing These are the main things for me, I've never been a power browser and didn't use many of the features
Subforum filtering (basically you select which subforums you want to be shown in the main forum category) https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/1195/e23fd7d3-04eb-4f61-8e04-fc75358b32a5/sf.png Fix mobile view (obviously) Embed controls (eg. thumbing images) Ability to wrap text in regular (blue) quote tags Mark unread function
Proper quoting (images, embeds etc) Quote editing Subforum filtering Mobile version PMs
Content Hubs like Popular and Latest. Navigation is the worst part of this forum rn and this would help a ton Subforum filters, again, for navigation. They should be on by default. There is zero reason to have subs show up in the parent forum.
Make search results look more like the forums or at least give them margins Show profile cards and avatars on a users profile page More customization for profile cards.
Current thread view count User titles, links, and information (it was cool to see what everyone was using, and seeing their social media) Fixed header at top of screen (can be optional, I'm just sick of having to press back/scroll to the top to see all of my thread notifications) Ability to change that TF2 forest background image More shit to spend coins on/cheaper prices
You can already do that with custom css. Just throw this into the custom css box in your preferences html::before { background-image: url(image url); }
1 - Read threads - This was my way to navigate and use the forum. And contrary to Garry's belief, it didn't stop me from discovering new threads and make me only post in a select few. If there was anything interesting happening (news, forum drama etc) it would appear in "newly created threads" or "newly created posts" and I would then use fp_read to keep up with that news. It stopped me having to navigate the forum every couple of minutes to read the new posts. The best thing about it was I could just click mark unread when I was finished with the thread and lost interest. It was a lot easier and more convenient than subscribing. 2 - Mobile version - This one is quite straight forward. There needs to be a mobile version of the site. I shouldn't have to use some workaround custom CSS or have to request desktop site every time I want to visit Facepunch on my tablet. It wouldn't be so bad if it was the same as the current forums but at the moment it's just some broken mess where you see the first two letters of a thread title. 3 - Longer thread titles displayed - I've pretty much completely stopped reading SH when it used to be my main source of news on Oldpunch. At the moment I need to hover over a link and look at the url at the bottom of my page to read the full title. I don't want to have to click on a thread to see what it's about because only have the title is displayed. For example - "Swedish Youtuber/Robot Enthusiast Simone Giertz reveals" reveals what? She's made another shitty robot? She's gay? She's winning a noble prize? It's only when I click on it that I find out the full thread is "Swedish Youtuber/Robot Enthusiast Simone Giertz reveals she has brain tumour." 4 - Mark unread - I would rather not see "X unread" on a whole bunch of threads I've either clicked accidentally, or are no longer interested in. It just clutters the forum for me. And since they don't appear to have a time limit, if nothing changes I could come across a topic in 5 years with 20,000 unread posts and i still wouldn't give a shit about them. 5 - Forum reports - This is also really straight forward. It's basic forum functionality! Users shouldn't have to go to discord or post in the forum reports topic. Every forum has a report button, well, every finished forum. I haven't come across a post that needs reporting but if I did, I probably wouldn't bother doing it. While I have discord it's an inconvenience waiting for that to login and then posting in the channel, or making a new post on the forum reports topic, having to copy and paste the url etc. When really, all we should need to do is click the report button. No reason for the report needed, the moderators are clever enough to determine if any action is required. Just give us a report button please.
