I couldn't help but read that as spider milk instead of spider silk and was both extremely confused and imagining spider titties
Neat article on the material. Doesn't go into too much detail, but one of the cooler things about this aside from the generation of a super strong cellulose based material, is that they hint at methods for the control of fabrication carbon fibers and carbon tubes at the nano scale. Which to my knowledge is one of the biggest setbacks in making useful stuff out of carbon materials. They didn't hint at whether this is completely solves the manufacturability problems, but if what they say is true this is exciting news indeed for composites.
Actually I saw a thing about goats who got gene therapy and had spider silk proteins in their milk
like many of these wonder materials it is doomed to remain in labs until I'm old and grey.
I want a shirt made of it
Well done! Hopefully this material will be used for a great variety of things. Considering it's cellulose, I wonder if they can make it biodegradeable, and then turn it into fishing line. Would be nice to have some strong line that if I have to break off, it won't end up killing some poor duck.
