That skyrim joke was fucking masterful
I really wish I could like Sunless Sea, but the writing turns me off so much that every time I go "I feel like playing Sunless Sea," I remember the writing, and then just click off and play something else. The game is otherwise a perfect fit for me, I think the Lovecraftian mechanics in a sailing-based game is an absolutely brilliant idea. The game plays pretty solidly, too. I have a few complaints with it, but overall it's a really solid game. But the writing... It's not objectively bad, in fact it's very quite masterfully written. But I just can't stand the style of writing. If the game weren't so hugely text-heavy, it wouldn't be an issue. But the fact that it submerges you in its text, combined with the fact I just don't like the way it's written, makes the game an overall unpleasant experience for me. And that makes me sad.
I can definitely confirm that Sunless Skies improves on Seas in every way. The combat is still real time, but plays closer to Star Control than the weird pseudo-ATB system Seas had. Different weapons now have very different projectile speeds and spreads (the current list of weapons is a slow single-shot cannon, a short-range shotgun-like cannon, and a weaker rapid-fire cannon) and strafing and banking to avoid attacks is now possible. The writing and art have only improved with the freedom the new setting offers, and there's a good bit more opportunity for character roleplaying with the deepened faction system. The game world's been divided into three major areas with their own themes and overarching conflicts, which adds a lot to the setting and keeps the pacing intact. I'd definitely recommend buying it when it comes out sometime this year.
he said less weird games coming soon but the next game review is necrovision, where you play as a dude during ww1 with a magic gauntlet fighting skeletons and ghosts.
Yeah, but it's an FPS which is fairly straightforward when it comes to presentation.
