• EA's Anthem to release Microtransactions after launch

https://gamerant.com/anthem-microtransaction-release/ In brief, Jorgensen initially stated that as the title is a new IP, the publisher would be maintaining conservative expectations for its performance, particularly as the game will also be released in the last month of the financial year. The executive later added that, while EA is not sure how the game’s release will impact the current financial year, the publisher is sure that it will perform well overall, stating, “we’re careful not to put too large of a forecast in there, and clearly [Anthem] will impact this year as well as next year as we not only continue to sell more into the next year but as we start rolling out the live services associated with that game.” Although it is currently unclear as to when exactly EA plans to add monetization elements to Anthem, the publisher is definitely discussing how the game’s overall profitability can be increased. A few months ago, Anthemcreative director Brenon Holmes stated as much when he commented on a Reddit thread discussing the potential implementation of a loot box system in the game. Holmes went on to confirm that the loot box system was one of the methods being considered. https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/2246/39bb1f59-e4e0-41f3-ae07-fe42d63be396/image.png
I almost read it as "before launch" and at this point it wouldn't surprise me.
We've barely even seen much of anthem and i'm already put off by it's future. I don't to get into a game like anthem only to be spat in the face a couple of weeks later when certain aspects of game progression are screwed over because they want people to spend money for lootboxes. I've done this already for destiny and i don't have the patience for shit like this anymore.
So basically what destiny did exactly. Thanks but no thanks.
EA ain't gonna change unless their CEO who has a hard-on for micro transactions steps down and even then
EA isn't the only evil that does this, there are so many AAA companies doing this shit now. I doubt the culture will change unless there is legislation.
One more body for the pile, I suppose.
I hated EA long before the microtransaction bullshit. Both EA and Bioware have been dead to me since right after Mass Effect 2
Oh. The player choice comes after lunch now. How nice of EA
is this gonna be the way developers get around the in-game purchase ratings that are gonna be introduced soon? im really not liking where this is all going if so
Lol if anybody still buys whatever scam EA wants to sell then you deserve whatever they throw at you.
This is saddening because Anthem was really my biggest glimmer of hope since Destiny 2 is dead in the water, The Division is with it, and Cyberpunk 2077 is a decade out.
I've seen almost nothing about Anthem and I already don't want to buy it.
Considering Bioware lives or dies on the success of this game, this is sad to see.
Bioware is dead.
Just accept that these things are going to always suck ass and stop getting your hopes up like dinguses. Why would it be different? Stop getting suckered into garbage. You know EA. Why are you the least bit disappointing at this?
It's not about EA, it's about Bioware. These dudes used to make the best RPGs in the business.

RIP Bioware then
As long as its not a loot box system and the prices are fair and cosmetic only that can also be purchased with in-game currency I have no issues. No doubt though EA has not learned their lesson though. The good news at least is that they are delaying their scummy practices until after they open the floodgates and players decide whether they like the game enough to stay or not.
Dropped

Only a few are as bold as EA though, like Activision. Loot Box's have gained such a bad rep this last year I don't think we're going to see much escalation from others til they try again in a few years.
EA is a publicly shared company, the CEO is just face of the shareholders
No, Wilson has a specific love for aggressive lootbox's. You can watch a video about the evolution of this here https://youtu.be/PTLFNlu2N_M?t=383
Rather little of "Bioware" is left.
Let's not derail the thread into being about SC, but it's worth pointing out that SC's crowdfunding model and its development model are very weird compared to the traditional industry standard and it's not exactly a good comparison against anything for that reason. It's not automatically good but it's like comparing apples and petunias, they're quite different. SC is also promising to not have a massive grind for most ships, as character progression isn't based on always getting a bigger ship, which is not the sort of thing EA is interested in doing. Meanwhile, time to see if the public remembers the Battlefront II debacle or if they prove EA right yet again.
It's not going to go away in any capacity - take your wins where you can get them
Bioware used to be huge, it just seems like they went down the wrong path after ME1 and Dragon Age Origins
I liked Inquisition, honestly. It wasn't incredible, certainly wasn't Origins, but I'm still interested in where the series could go. Couldn't give less of a crap about Anthem though. I can't see EA not ruining it.
