hangovers suck but imo it is better they exist as at least an attempt to encourage moderation, or at least not getting trashed all the time
Yeah over here our alcohol is pretty heavily taxed and we still have a huge drinking culture. Take away hangovers and I give the average kiwi about a year to live.

Hangovers are pretty much the sole reason I stopped drinking. That, and costs.
As a former alcoholic I can say if I could've done it without hangovers I would have drunk myself to death at some point. It only takes one clanger of an aftershock to shake you off a bender, at least with the rate I was going at. Plus, a primary part of a hangover is a dehydration and electrolyte/salt imbalance in the body caused by processing all that alcohol. It's incredibly fucking dangerous to just negate the effects of a hangover without treating the cure, wtf.
FWIW my hangover cure was to drink water and have some sugary, high-water-content fruit, like pineapple or watermelon.
Reading the article it seems like the pill can also help with alcohol overdoses, which could save lives.
It depends on the painkiller. Paracetamol should never be mixed with alcohol, but opioids would probably be alright. Ibuprofen would increase the chances of stomach bleeding, yes, although if mixed with lansoprazole, it would probably be okay.
I always heard a myth that Med students would use saline bags to skirt hangovers, being kept hydrated they avoided the effects but I've never actually heard a single instance of it being done for real

You can just take a bunch of B-12 vitamins, drink a glass of water and go to bed. That helps 95% of the time even when I'm too drunk to be able to get into my bed.
Hangovers are a reminder that you shouldn't drink till your piss drunk.

I don't know about the Med school part but I do know our Corpsmen would do it for us in the Marine Corps when I was in.
Hangovers are your bodies way of telling you you've gone too far, this pill seems like it'll just create a shitload more alcoholics.
