It's really hard to watch anyone, CliffyB included, fail like this. Hoping he eventually recovers after a well needed break and reflection.
I genuinely enjoyed Lawbreakers. It was fucking painful watching people mercilessly rip into it, and him in turn. He deserves time off, and hopefully he can come back with something nice that does a little better.
Jazz Jackrabbit 3 when?
Can't say I'm not laughing.
It's eerie to see someone go from working on epic games like Unreal to going down in flames like this.
For some reason I'm blocked from Cliff B's twitter?
“I think people would rather make a game that sells 4.5 million copies than a million and “Gears” is at 4.5 million right now on the 360. I think the PC is just in disarray… what’s driving the PC right now is ‘Sims’-type games and ‘WoW‘ and a lot of stuff that’s in a web-based interface. You just click on it and play it. That’s the direction PC is evolving into So for me, the PC is kind of the secondary part of what we’re doing. It’s important for us, but right now making AAA games on consoles is where we’re at.” Nah, it's guaranteed.
With waves of new classic sidescrolling games becoming incredibly popular, I really don't know why he hasn't done this to be honest. I'm assuming he doesn't have the rights.
Opinions are not static.
The market at the time was 100% in favour of consoles as well, the statement reflects the period it was said.
The point is Cliffy is gaming's George Lucas. The man did some great work, but he's also an idiot and when he's left to make all the decisions himself it fails. He needs people to keep in in line.
Lawbreakers looked like a real fun game, but considering the first thing I heard about it was it's abysmal active user has, I wasn't going to drop 60 for any game that will struggle to fill a server.
not a surprise, that's what happens when you try and chase trends that have already peaked
Don't play with my heart like that, I'd love to see JJ3 in 2.5D so badly.

cliffy "pc gamers are assholes and all pirates also i fully support @FemFreq entirely" b. yeah dudes a douche and deserves this. his employees may or may not deserve it, but how fucking stupid do you have to be to release a game like Lawbreakers in an overly saturated market, and then immediately release a fucking Battle Royale-themed game when that market is also extremely saturated.
Cliffy B Cliffy Been
Burning bridges sure helped sell his games.
[...] Radical Heights, which was well received, [...] You won't improve in making games if you live in a filter bubble.
I wouldn't say 100%, 2006/2007 saw some astonishingly good and popular PC games come out (I mean, 2007 was an insane year to be a PC gamer, with the Orange Box, Crysis, TBC, Supreme Commander, 2006 had BF2142, Oblivion (multiplatform I guess), Company of Heroes), but consoles definitely dominated yeah however, there's a definite sense of schadenfreude when someone, who didn't come onto the platform because (paraphrasing) there isn't any money in it, gets basically no money when he comes crawling back for the shittons of money that is currently circulating on PC
Cliffy B's actions during Lawbreakers and the hasty "run into a brick wall" move that was Radical Heights were far from great business moves but we're talking about the guy that made DM_Curse][,CTF_Chrome and DM_Icetomb. He was one of the people that made Unreal Tournament a god damn titan. Boss Key Productions died because of hilariously bad business moves and not horrible design. As was the case with stuff like Battleborn which outside of too much visual feedback onscreen and minor balance issues was a fun game. Lawbreakers's concept of messing around with momentum and gravity was fun but it needed work and releasing into the already oversaturated hero shooter was a fucking awful idea and making the same mistake with battle royale was the final nail in the coffin and rightly so. I'm absolutely sure that Cliffy B knows how to make a good game but he's another classic example of a developer that really really can't make business decision to save their lives.
I have no clue what they were thinking with Radical Heights, it was a completely ripoff and also hot garbage, and I can't really make excuses for the guy on that regardless of who he is.
Can't wait for the inevitable Radical Heights: Reloaded. Where it's still in it's barely a game state but monetized out the ass and then some. Because that's typically what happens when a up and coming game barely lasts a month.
Radical Heights was a smart move, A+ guy

The Founders pack specifically said that there would be no refunds so I don't know what people are expecting.
I wonder what happens to new Unreal Tournament, they took staff to the Fortnite IIRC and froze the project. This is both project that I would love to play and at the same time - die in the market that don't want these games
