Here, have some more crazy too
I dont know much about this situation, but the Diversity and Comics youtube channel is one of the most infuriatingly bigoted channels out there.
Why do I feel like I'm getting incomplete stories on both sides?
Care to elaborate? This is my first time hearing about any of the people involved and this channel and both the video and the article linked are pro-him so I'm interested to hear the other side of the story.
You can go to his youtube channel, but basically its the same ol crying about sjws and “forced” diversity that so many other hacky channels do but applied to comics.
I was wondering if it was the Sarkeesian branch of bigotry or the Milo branch of bigotry. Thanks for clarifying.
Oh, I noticed the clickbaity titles and buzzwords, but I was hoping for some actual, you know, bigotry.
Overreacting about SJW and forced diversity in marvel comic books (which I don't read, but I heard a lot of people complaining about it on FP as well) is not the same as being a bigot. You said it was "one of the most infuriatingly bigoted channels out there" so I expected some genuinely racist/sexist/homophobic shit.
Looking through it seems like a lot of shitty people being shitty to each other, just some of them are using industry clout to try and strongarm others out of the industry or else threatening violence.
Don't worry I gotchu'
“One of the things about SJWs is that they get a job because of surface qualities, being a woman, being black, being gay, being trans, and there’s no adjustment on the ground to negative fan reaction due to low sales,” he told The Daily Beast. The milkshake crew particularly raised his ire: “They obviously seemed to not be qualified. They can’t spot basic typos, they can’t notice major plot holes, they antagonize the fans... I talk to all these people, actual, legitimate talents, who can’t get a job to save their lives. Meanwhile some airhead who calls the fans Nazis and turns out laughably bad work is getting Eisner awards.”
Both Meyer’s YouTube and Twitter accounts rapidly became a repository for a constant stream of personal attacks and dog-whistles for his followers. He has publically labeled Ta-Nehisi Coates a “race hustler” and repeatedly mocked DC writer Magdalene Visaggio as a “man in a wig,” claiming that she is violent and mentally ill. He fixates on the the physical appearance of female creators he dislikes and retweeted memes mocking certain creators as “autistic retards,” along with images of himself slapping them.
In a private YouTube video called “The Dark Roast,” originally posted in November 2017 and obtained by The Daily Beast, Meyer called one Marvel editor a “cum-dumpster,” accused various female writers of “sucking their way into the industry,” and mused which famous creators were pedophiles or had psychological problems. “The Dark Roast is where I get to say stuff like ‘Dan Slott looks like a pedophile,’” he says in the recording. “I don’t have to dance around, I don’t have to say ‘parody’ or wink-wink.”
“That was a private, letting-off-steam video,” Meyer told The Daily Beast, confirming the video’s authenticity. “Which had a disclaimer on it that it was for close friends only. I’m very disappointed whoever shared that with you broke that disclaimer and broke faith.”
I don't know how Daily Beast is tolerated here (plus the whole article uses GamerGators as a backdrop which in-itself is forum discussion poison), but that's the source
He also associates with some of the openly shittiest people in the industry, Ethan Van Sciver in particular who's done cover art in 'parody' of Mein Kampf, has gotten into twitter fights (a few times with people I know which is how I know about this shitstorm ) and has said stuff such as

https://nickmonroe.blog/2018/02/12/on-ethan-van-sciver-and-comicsgate/ covers the whole timeline on him nicely with direct screenshots of messages and posts by him.
So yeah, I don't know much about this 'Comics & Diversity' guy but between who he hangs out with and having video titles such as

(gee, wonder why that specific emphasis is used), he's at the v least not exactly someone I would trust to be fair and unbiased.
Bear in mind whom made the accusation; and secondly Waid, Breevort, Aaron and two others have deliberately antagonized readers for years as policy.
Seems like my thread has invoked quite the discussion! When I wathced the video I did not know anything about this D&C guy, although looking at the messages here, it seems he perhaps should at least consider naming his videos a bit better. Mr. Waid still doesn't look too good in my eyes though.
A little update: D&C guy has filed a complaint to the Federal Trade Commission. Interested to see where this might go.

Might be worth it to read through this.
FYI, I think BLACK (in all caps) is the name of the comic book, not an emphasis
Either way, this seems like one of very few disputes where both sides seem to be genuinely horrible. With every new piece I learn, there is something I see that paints someone in worse light. Wow.
I don't see how Waid and co are painted in a bad light. He called up Antarctic Press, who seemed to just pick up this comic not knowing anything about D&C's backstory, and told them that they were about to pick up a comic made by a bunch of people who were sexist and transphobic and whose fans had harassed local comic book stores. According to Antarctic press themselves, D&C made up all this shit about Waid bullying them into submission, and that nothing about that story was true.
Wow.
Going by this article he doesnt seem like the most balanced individual either:

Some stuff he put about some other comic writer he had beef with:

Unless you mean very specifically in this controversy about Antarctic Press, in which case I don't think he did anything particularly bad by calling the company if he really did just have a civil conversation with them. Its everything else about his behavior that ultimately makes me think hes at least as bad as Mayer as his worst.
Also, lets not forget the story of him harassing the conservative ilustrator who did the ilustrations for the very comic book we are arguing about.
Also, don't make fun of me please.
American comic books have pretty much declined in both quality and sales compared to their Franco-Belgian and Japanese counter parts and pretty much need an industry reboot.
It more everything else where he has a demonstrable pattern of harassment that borders on stalking.
Everyone really needs to read through the entirety of both of these links in order to get the "Full story".
Basically, D&C seems to be a bigot(With mixed race kids) who makes very anti SJW videos regularly and seems to harass people.
Mark Waid, seems to be a total fucking asshole, and is a harasser as well.
Basically, literally everyone in this story is some version, variation, or combination of a cunt
