besides from the gmod 13 new server browser that did keep gmod alive for a bit longer why do you think gmod is dying off and do you think if sandbox does get released will it turn into gmod 2.0 with shitty rp versions.
I don't wanna sound like an asshole, but it was released in 2006. The fact it's still active at all after all these years is incredible. It's just getting old.
It’s just an old game. I was sick of it by 2011, and I had been playing it for years even at that point.
The game was already dying before the great influx of YouTubers around 2014-ish, now that those sorts of YouTubers are moving on from it to games like Fortnite, etc. we're starting to see it dying off again. As for why it's dying, the people who played gmod as young people have grown up. Many of the lua developers who made gamemodes/addons/weapons/tools/SENTs and map/model artists are still on this website, but they've moved on to more advanced programming languages (C#,C++) or game engines (unreal, unity) with more options.
the games like real old dude. It (and the engine) is so old that Gmods Successor is just going to use Unreal
Garry's Mod https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/716/78be8ed0-19ae-4711-a7d3-205361e711ef/image.png that's very very far from what I'd consider "dying" As a note that hard dip at the end of 2018 is something all games on steamchart have, because they have to change the way the data works. I checked many games, nearly all have it.
On a side note I find it incredible how little competition Gmod has had in the years, there really hasn't been anything even close to knocking it off of its throne.
For real, I think space engineers and besieged, as well as the many others don't really truly count They're physics sandboxes but they're either specialized in something very general or have a strict set of building rules, all of which have none or super limited modding capabilities GMod is uniquely powerful because it's modding community flexible far beyond what others have replicated and the building itself is 'limitless', in that it doesn't have a baseline set of rules and objects and tools that you have to work with. You're just kind of building without the feeling of 'this is designed to be built', you are building because you can simply make it work for you, it gives you this very unique feeling of freedom that other games can't recreate.
Ya'll forgot about Sven co-op and ent mod? :P That was the original GMod for me.
Honestly it's amazing Gmod has lasted this long considering it's a shitty jbmod knockoff
