We did it! We beat the jews! *Societal conditions don't improve* [nationalism intensifies]
I never really understood the weird hate surrounding this dude. All i was able to distill is that he's left leaning and a jew, and apparently people are going apeshit cause of that.
Conspiracy theories mostly, just look at the comments of every Soros interview ever. He also doesn't support dictators, and obviously the dictators don't like that.
Dude saw what fascism did to Hungary and Europe in general the first time round. To say he doesn't support dictators is sorta like saying lava is quite warm :v
He's considered the left wings' "Koch Brothers," except with a fraction of the actual wealth and power of the real Koch Brothers. Right wing conspiracists like to try to find ways in which (((George Soros))) is behind everything they don't like. For example, they like to delude themselves into thinking that he secretly pays all the protesters at anti-Trump protests.
Him being Jewish has really nothing to do with all this though. I know that must sound pretty incredible, but the government here made campaigning tool out of him for entirely different reasons. (The current government is a lot of things, but they are not anti-semitic either) Elections were coming early 2018 and the campaign against illegal immigration was starting to lose some of its momentum (I mean it was still an actual issue with strong support, but after getting bombarded with it for two years people are bound to lose their attention and focus on other things like the major issue of the high-level corruption in the country). Soros was then picked as boogeyman of the year because: He is demonstratably not anti-immigration (he has made some essays in the topic) -> he is a man with a plan He supports NGOs that work in Europe and Hungary, some of them directly concerned with immigration and refugees -> the plan is in action He is regarded powerful enough, that you can say that he is behind all the opposition candidates (hint: he isnt) Then April came, Fidesz won with 2/3rds majority, the Stop Soros law was accepted, and the campaign against Soros virtually ended, it served its purpose.
Unfortunately even if it was for purely political reasons, the Hungarian government latched onto a campaign against Soros that appears to have originated in the American far right (with people like Bill Oreilly and Alex Jones) and is deeply rooted in some very old school antisemitic canards (Rich Jews secretly controlling world governments, the media, the financial system etc.) dating back to the Protocols of the Elders of Zion. It's exactly the same kind of conspiracies that used to be tied to the likes of the Rothschilds.
That's actually something people love to say about Soros; that he was a Nazi collaborator and that he got all his wealth by confiscating Jewish property (which is even worse for him, because he himself is Jewish). And this all is a based on a video he reportedly tried to hide but it was leaked to show the truth. My mother, indoctrinated by bullshit hoaxes on Facebook and my Russian-propaganda-spewing brother, also believes in Soros being the source of ultimate evil and a Nazi that is worse than Hitler ever was, I told her about the video and explained to her that the foundation people base their bullshit beliefs are wrong and that couldn't have been a collaborator that confiscated Jewish property for himself since he was only 9-14 years old during WW2. And my mother said; "Okay, well maybe, but he could've gotten the stolen Jewish property after the war!" I guess people try their best to keep his image of ultimate evil puppet master. I suppose he's perfect for it; He's Jewish, old, rich, white and the name Soros could be used for a James Bond movie villain... and as a bonus, for all those who look for all sorts of hidden codes that eventually spell out SATAN or 666, his name is a palindrome. It doesn't really get any better than that, does it?
I just don't like billionaires going around interfering in peoples politics and such. That goes for shits like the Koch brothers too, it doesn't matter what "side" they're on.
They've as much a right to engage in politics as any of us. The issues stems from the fact that they're able to lobby/bribe the politicians, which makes the politicians more willing to them rather than the average citizen because their wallets are getting fat.
The theories I've seen revolve around him funding counter-culture movements across the world, from things like Occupy Wallstreet to BLM. This is of course done with the goal of instilling "communism" because the "left follows the guidelines for Communism in The Naked Communist and we need to stop them", or something like that. As other people have said, he's basically the Koch Brothers™ of the right. It's all a bunch of bullshit, as you would expect. The Naked Communist was a bunch of Red Scare era propaganda to get people to always trust the FBI because if you don't "yer a Commie", and was also to instill Judeo-Christian values because "if yer not a Christian, yer a Commie". This is probably where a lot of the right's dislike of The Gays™ came from. One of the steps in TNC is that gay marriage is meant to subvert Christian values so we can get COMMUNISM. It's some weird shit, man.
The vast majority of conservatives I know just see Soros as a source of funding for far left policies and groups. Facepunch was the first place I ever heard about any of these Soros conspiracies. I have my doubts about how many people actually even believe, or even know about, them.
A lot of people like to claim he's a communist too, that's completely false given that he's been campaigning against communism for his entire political action career, but facts never mattered to conspiracy theory.
Idk where the hell you've been, Soros has been a huge target for conspiratards for a good while now...
I'm sure he has, I just don't think it's relevant to the vast majority of people.
He said, in a thread about an entire government exerting huge amounts of effort and succeeding in kicking his organization out.
