It's a lifestyle man.
Eat. Sleep. Fortnite. Repeat.
Price is hardly the only major leaguer to be hit with Fortnite fever, though he may be the only one shelved by it. As The Athletic’s Jen McCaffrey reports, the Red Sox — which as of this writing shares baseball’s best record with the Yankees — are respawning all night long, with ace Chris Sale, lights-out closer Craig Kimbrel, and slugger J. D. Martinez playing Fortnite on an Xbox that Price lugs around in a backpack.
seems like the worst way to do things, gaming laptop + controller seems better or even just using that Razer gaming phone and a controller
Is this why the braves are on a hotstreak after 20 something years?
I saw a thing a while ago that people were using Fortnite to ask people out to prom. I've not played it, it is f2p though
Aside from it being free, and the lack of cheaters, what makes Fortnite so much more popular than PUBG?
I'm guessing the cartoony nature of it? I honestly don't play it but I see the appeal to the younger crowd off the bat, opposed to PUBG being for a mature crowd. That and it being the hot shit as of the moment for streamers.
probably because it was a finished game that they added battle royalle to instead of a battle royalle they made a game around
It's a lot easier to learn, friendly UI/artstyle, available on pretty much every popular platform right now (especially mobile. this appeals to the casual crowd easily).
and drake played it with some streamer that one time i think
It's also far easier to run than PUBG and has a fully functioning console port.
I hear free is pretty cheap and easily obtainable
(it also doesn't run like a janky mess, but I think being free helps it the most here)
It's pretty different from PUBG when you compare them side by side. I prefer Fortnite for a few reasons.
It feels way less clunky when you're playing; going back to PUBG from Fortnite, I really don't know how I could ever deal with it. The delay to do anything (interacting, moving) and how buggy the parachuting/landing is drives me bonkers.
The games artistic style and the path they've taken with the game (less serious) attracts me more then PUBG's serious feel. The cosmetic items and collectibles in Fortnite also add a lot - it's sad, but I have a huge collection of different emotes/dances on Fortnite that are fun to show off. PUBG doesn't really have anything like that. Even the clothing you unlock is just.. boring.
Fortnite also has building which is actually a hugely impactful addition to the game. It's not just your traditional run-and-gun battle royale, you can gather resources and build temporary cover/ramps for yourself. It completely changes up end-game and it really does come down to skill (some people are nuts when it comes to building). I think this is also why it has blown up on Twitch - most people can't build for shit when they're under pressure. For those professional streamers who have their building techniques nailed down and can smash them out in a couple seconds.. they just fucking obliterate. It's fun to watch.
Finished? Pretty sure actual, original Fortnite wasn't nearly finished and development of it was halted when they decided to compete against PUBG.
its better than the arma/cs:go clone that pubg is
Ohh yeah, base Fortnite was a terrible thing that existed as a leech. The Battleroyale addition was the best thing to happen to it. Calling PUBG a clone of Arma or Counter-Strike isn't really fitting though.
Save the World's development has not been halted, why do people still think this?
Pretty sure it was. They only started it back up later on after the Battleroyale aspect had established its place.
Why? Because its true.
To my understanding StW got simply slowed down due to BR's success, not that it was completely stopped then brought back up again
ya but its gameplay was just generic arena fps like arma and csgo which were both pretty popular at the time, the secret sauce was just the barrier mechanic
As long as it doesn't hit my Reds. They're already doing bad enough, if they start playing Fortnite then Cincinnati's not going to have an MLB team at all.
it honestly depends on what kind of game you want
clunkyness, bugs and lack of optimization aside, you either go for a more arcade, fast paced experience like Fortnite, or a more slow paced game like PUBG
I for example dislike the overly arcade gunplay of Fortnite, and the fort building aspect of it looks like more of a nuissance for both defender and attacker, building path to loads of "chinese ping pong" moments of parrying shots for as long as you can build or just dodge.
PUBG has rewarded me waaay too many times for being oportunistic and tactician to drop it for anything else. You feel like a smartass when you lie on the ground shooting the people that are shooting at your teammates when they can't see you, or when you take advantage of a firefight between two groups to wipe one or both out, or even just slip past while they are busy with each other. It really pays up to think well on how to go about situations.
I wish I knew how to have fun with Battle Royale games. I hated PUBG and Fortnite just wasn't fun for me. I personally don't understand how they have become so popular that even celebrities are raving about it.

Apparently this too is a fortnite thing.
I personally prefer Fortnite much more over PUBG simply because of one thing: It's a lot more chill. With PUBG, you have an hour or more all out battle royale where tension drips in the air as one wrong move from the clunkiness or your own idiotic thinking will completely screw you and force you to restart another hour long affair. You have none of that with Fortnite. The average game in Fortnite takes about 20 minutes, give or take 10 minutes depending how good you are, where you can just lay back and chill for a bit as you gather up weapons and resources to be able to fight other players, maybe getting a few kills along the way. Things only start becoming incredibly tense as you enter the top 6 as the circle closes faster and faster and you develop whatever strategy you need to survive until either your dead or you've won. If at any point along this path, you die, it's really not that bad at all, you just go back to the menu, queu for another and find yourself in a similar or even better position within another 10 minutes. This doesn't diminish the feeling of winning in Fortnite because you still just beat another 100 people, some of which were in fact, quite difficult to kill, but because you had more skill you were able to overcome them. It's just why I find Fortnite the better game, because it makes you care about the game without feeling worse for not being able to win it. That being said of course some people would prefer to play PUBG over Fortnite any day, as there's much more at stake in PUBG than there is in Fortnite, and so the rewards increase just as much as the risk does. I do think however, for your average player, especially casual players who just sit to play on the Xbox for a few hours, Fortnite tends to be much more suited for that kind of player, and that's why you find so many people playing it.
The main thing turning me off fortnite is the building mechanic. I've seen people shit out towers in a few seconds and thats a meta I don't want to get involved with.
Finally! Athletes who can relate to me!
Athletes ain't much for fancy book learnins.
Runs better in both performance and networking, looks a lot more appealing to a general audience, has more mechanics than just "schut dood", and it's free.
When you compare this to PUBG that runs like ass in most cases, has various server issues, and costs $30 (while having RNG lootbox based microtransactions), it's not hard to see why it's more appealing. Not saying one is better than the other as that's entirely subjective (a lot of people still prefer PUBG despite its flaws and I understand why), just saying why it's generally more appealing.
Though I will say if it wasn't for PUBG Corp/Bluehole making such as fuss about Fortnite adding a BR mode last year, I doubt it would've taken off as rapidly as it did. All the PUBG devs did there was essentially give Fortnite free advertising by pointing those disgruntled with PUBG's development to a competitor.
please find me this, I don't want to google it because I'm going to guarenteed get cancer
