How are cheap cars a problem even if this was true?
I wish
i wanna know what plane of reality these people live on where any german vehicle is cheap
are they thinking like east german trabants, becuase those are pretty cheap yeah
but last i checked volkswagen wasnt bulk shipping trabants over for americans to drive
Where are these cheap German cars and where can I buy one?
Thanks, Merkel! Can I have a nice, cheap German car please? It’s better than expensive, American crap.
...Whats the problem?
German cars are nice.
To everyone surprised that Germany would be able to sell cheap cars - I think this is probably a specific reference to the thousands of those cars that cheated emission tests, as VW is keen to make back at least some of the money they lost making them in the first place after Trump likely follows his already established evil villain trajectory and increases the amount a car can pollute and still be sold.
That's the problem, they're assigning the blame for failing US industry on the fact that other countries make shit better and cheaper. It feeds into the whole "foreign bad isolationism now" narrative that's going around at the moment.
I think they got some of their facts confused there, America is flooded cheap American cars.
Trump is saying its not fair that no one will buy our shitty fucking cars, and that we buy too many foreign ones (we don't, ford/GM sells ~5x as much regular cars in the US than any other brand). American cars will never be accepted into the EU because our fuel economy is complete shite, which apparently that's their problem for having their standards too high. So now trump wants to tax euro cars in response.
He told a boisterous crowd that if Europe did not lower trade barriers to US imports, “we’re gonna tax Mercedes-Benz, we’re gonna tax BMW.”

even more moronic is that majority of the "euro" cars sold in the US are indeed made in the US. So taxing would be idiotic and detrimental to ourselves:

the only cars america needs are PURE V8 ALL AMERICAN MUSCLE 1.5 MPG fuck them libtards with their pussy fuel economy. aint yall heard, oil lasts forever
Holy fuck the amount of xenophobia in this country is so frightening.
You're welcome is what you should say.
der terken er jerbs!!
Hello Queen Merkel. Please send me a Porsche 718 GT4 and I'll let you decide who I vote for the next 2 presidential elections
They're German cars. I'm sure no matter how cheap they are, they're better than whatever America's big auto makers are dumping out these days.
UNtil you try to service one and realize that it costs 2-4 times as much to buy parts for the fuckin' things as it does something from Tokyo or Detroit and takes 2-3 times as long to fit those parts because of that classic German engineering. Oh, and you also need access to their proprietary diagnostics computer to even *think* about sussing out an error.
German cars are awful to own. Great to drive but only if someone else is paying for repairs and upkeep.
Source: I worked on the fuckers for a while.
Well maybe if Americans stopped doing a shit job of making cars the Germans wouldn't take 'em?
That would mean having to hire a quality control department and possibly a research/development department. That would cut into the CEO's Christmas bonus, which is a no-go.
Suck it up and buy AMERICAN!
